| Tomlin only extends his contract because he used Cowher's pen to sign it. | |

| Tomlin, Steelers a perfect matchBob Labriola Steelers.com Mike Tomlin accepts and understands how the Steelers do business, and he's good at his job.To him, it’s no big deal. Nothing to celebrate. In fact, the task of even getting Mike Tomlin to talk about the contract extension he signed today, at least in an expansive manner, has a degree of difficulty falling somewhere between pulling teeth and impossible. But the fact the Steelers and their coach executed a two-year extension through the 2018 season, and did so without any leaks during the negotiation process, makes a statement. From Steelers President Art Rooney II, it’s an acknowledgement of Tomlin’s success at problem-solving, because at the core of being a successful head coach is an ability to solve problems. From Tomlin, it’s an acceptance of the way the Steelers do business, because working for the Pittsburgh Steelers is different. And because it all happened under the radar is just one of the reasons they belong together. Hired in 2007 following a rather meteoric rise through the list of candidates after his first interview, Tomlin has been faced with a series of problems that always didn’t appear on the surface to be problems and yet could’ve morphed into big problems if he hadn’t handled them well. to read rest of article: http://www.steelers.com/news/article-1/Tomlin-Steelers-a-perfect-match/41490c0c-95e3-48bf-9a88-ef582d0ebf5c | |

How could Tomlin have gotten this extension? Are there even any Cowher players left for him to win with?!? _________________ -"I stand corrected... But I absolutely and wholeheartedly fart in the general direction of almost every other thing you have posted to this point."- | |

| Good far outweighs bad in Tomlin's tenure Posted: Thursday, July 23, 2015 By Chris Bradford Steelers coach Mike Tomlin talks to his team during a Jan. 2 game against the Bengals in Pittsburgh. On the eve of the eve of the start of his ninth training camp as coach -- yes, it's been that long already --- the Steelers announced a two-year contract extension for Mike Tomlin. Thursday's move hardly comes as a surprise as the Steelers routinely dole out extensions to coaches with two years remaining on their existing contracts. Below, Times Steelers Beat Writer Chris Bradford gives you the best and worst of Tomlin's tenure in Pittsburgh. Spoiler alert: The good far outweighs the bad. THE GOOD1. Tomlin's record speaks for itself. He is 82-46 with a .641 winning percentage, the best start of any coach in franchise history. He's won four division titles and has guided the Steelers to two Super Bowls, including a win in SB43 in just his second season. In a NFL.com power ranking of coaches in July, Tomlin finished sixth behind New England's Bill Belichick, Seattle's Pete Carroll, Baltimore's John Harbaugh, Green Bay's Mike McCarthy and New Orleans' Sean Payton. The knock on Tomlin is his 5-4 playoff record but that could change in January. 2. Indeed, there is something to be said for stability. If all goes according to plan, Tomlin will be the Steelers coach at least through 2018. That would mean Tomlin would spend at least a dozen years as coach of the Steelers or three years fewer than his predecessor, Bill Cowher, or 11 years fewer than his predecessor, Chuck Noll. From 1969 to 2018, a stretch of 49 years, the Steelers will have had just three head coaches. Compare that to, say, Cleveland, where they've had seven ... since 1999. 3. Though he's beginning his ninth season, Tomlin, 43, is still the second-youngest coach in the NFL. Tomlin's age has worked to his advantage in terms of developing relationships with players, some of whom haven't been much younger than himself. But, make no mistake, Tomlin is the boss and all are aware of it. Moreover, Tomlin has a passion for the game and a competitive fire which burns on game days and on the practice field. THE BAD1. There have been questions about Tomlin's time management. There's have been questions about his team's discipline, taking ill-advised penalties of the pre-snap and post-snap variety and, of course, losing on the west coast. But clearly the most frustrating check against Tomlin's tenure has been his team playing down to the level of its competition. In 2014 alone the Steelers lost very winnable games to Cleveland, Tampa Bay and the New York Jets. All are a poor reflection on the team's preparedness and the coaching staff. 2. Impressive as Tomlin's record is, the Steelers haven't won a postseason game since 2010... to read rest of article: http://www.timesonline.com/sports/steelers/good-far-outweighs-bad-in-tomlin-s-tenure/article_bef840b0-3167-11e5-9d45-e336d7b5bda8.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter | |

| Tomlin has been extended and Jacoby Jones is in San Diego. Obviously, we know who got the better side of that sideline play. :) | |
