So first step completed.  Now let's learn about Chris and hope this is an upgrade:

1. Boswell, was in the Giants’ training camp until his release on Aug. 16.

2. Originally undrafted out of Rice, Boswell signed as a rookie free agent with the Houston Texans but was released prior to the start of the 2014 season. He was later added to their practice squad and released a week later on Sept. 30.

3. In four preseason games with Houston in 2014, Boswell made both of his field goal attempts from 33 and 44 yards. He averaged 63.5 yards on 10 kickoffs with two touchbacks. Boswell also punted 15 times, averaging 44.3 yards per attempt while landing six inside the 20-yard line.

4. Boswell, 6-2 and 185 pounds, was one of the top long distance kickers in the country at Rice, where he became the second player in school history to top 300 career points. He finished just two points shy of the Rice career scoring record. He connected on 14 kicks from 50 yards or more during his college career, including three from 55-plus yards.

5. A native of Keller, Texas, Boswell prepped at Fossil Ridge High School and was the fifth-ranked kicker in the country by Rivals.com. He was named to the Associated Press All-State first team and to the Texas Sportswriters Association Class 5A All-State second team as a senior. Boswell was also selected to play in the 2009 US Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio.

Sounds promising. His college career #s look good, makes one wonder why he was released, twice.

Can't really be much worse then Scobee at this point. Hopefully the kid makes the most of his opportunity and boots some 50+ yarders and we find a solid kicker for the future.

Damn, our resume for kickers is gonna look like the Brownies for QB's if we don't get a keeper soon.

Especially in Ravens-Steelers games, a good kicker is crucial.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that we're on our fourth kicker in two months. We've had more kickers this year than we've had coaches in my lifetime.

not like the current standard for being a Steelers kicker is that high. Boswell shouldn't have too much of a problem making Steeler fans happy...just kick the damn FGs and also kick the ball in to the endzone on kickoffs.

I hate that we have to invest this much time and energy in a kicker, but they are obviously an important facet of the game. Just need a reliable one to connect on 40's.

Bottom line is that the kicker is typically a good teams highest scoring player, year in and year out. They are a huge part of the win-loss success

Yeah, but can they put their kickoffs thru the end zone? Message Board posters know that is the most important stat. Chris Boswell (signed) 1505004552

after Garrett Hartley went down, and going into the season, I thought Shaun Suisham maybe the team's biggest loss including Bryant Levy on Bell and Maurkice Pouncey.

Hopefully most fans now appreciate his value despite not booming kickoffs through the back of the end zone or constantly hitting 50 yard field goals.

I think our new kicker has a shelf life of about 3 weeks. We better keep Skippy on speed dial. He has quit his job as a car dealer and is working out just in case.

I would have no problem taking him back. This weekend kickers missed a total of 18 field goals or extra points. We are pretty much screwed until Ben comes back and we can outscore opponents by at least a touchdown every game.
