The NFL needs to examine new developments in some sort of body armor / padding. More than one guy on this team really needs it.

I think it may be time to call time-of-death on Pouncey.
He may be a great center, but he's in the shop far more often than he's on the field and that helps no one.

that's disapointing. Wallace has done admirably in his absence though.

I guess it could be worse........ Could be Ben with a setback!
Pouncey is way too injury prone to keep at top dollar. I know some analysts will say he's not injury prone on the basis that the injuries aren't related and are all fluky, etc. But when a guy starts going down, it seems there's no end to it.
I've written him off for the season. Hopefully he can make it back from the Super Bowl.

Pouncey has been missed in the Pittsburgh lineup. His replacement, Cody Wallace, has has graded out as one of the league's worst centers through five weeks, according to ProFootballFocus.com.
Center Maurkice Pouncey may miss the entire 2015 season after having a second surgery on his left fibula because infection had set in.
Pouncey, who is on short-term injured reserve, was preparing to start practicing next week, but because of the infection, surgeons had to go back in to take out the metal plate that had been inserted during the first surgery and clean up the infection.
A source told the Post-Gazette that Pouncey will “probably” miss the rest of the season but he will get a second opinion from another doctor first. He had been eligible to return to practice next week and return to play against the Raiders Nov. 8.
I guess Pouncey will be seeing this doc If you’re a high-profile athlete and you have a foot or ankle injury, there’s really no debate.
You go see Dr. Bob.
NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB players know about him. So do their agents and their team’s doctors. In recent years, major college athletics programs have sent their top players to Charlotte to see Dr. Bob.
Even though Charlotte’s Dr. Robert Anderson is the most well-known foot and ankle doctor in the world of sports, little is known about him....
He has operated on hundreds of professional athletes, including some of the sports world’s superstars – Cam Newton, Stephen Curry and Derek Jeter, to name a few.

Melanie Friedlander @Girlsurgeon
Once synthetic material (like the plate in Pouncey's leg) gets contaminated with bacteria, it has to be removed. Antibiotics won't work.

One of the worst? Wallace is a backup... so if there are other starters who are worse, then I guess it's not that bad.

Weve been without so many playmakers this year for various reasons.
Ben Shazier Pouncey Leveon M.Bryant
And then it's been hell trying to replace Suish.
A constant barrage of things with the potential to derail this season before the steelers ever get on their feet and start running

To be fair to Cody Wallace, Ben was having a stellar season before his injury, so I think Pouncey's absence hasn't affected us that much. But then again, maybe with Pouncey in Ben doesn't get hurt?

Cody Wallace is strictly a stop-gap solution. He actually grades out as one of the worst starting centers in the league. We are infinitely better with Pouncey on the field. Ben masks some of Wallace's deficiencies because of his ability to get the ball out quickly, to escape sacks, and extend plays.

Thanks guys. I feel stupid now. Anyhow it sucks for Pouncey. Man great talent. It really is too bad he has had all these injuries.

I agree with you.
Like everyone else, I think Pouncey has great talent. But the truth is that whenever he's been out (which seems to be most of the time) we really don't seem to miss him all that much.

I agree that Pouncey, when healthy is one of the top centers in the game, but I don't see the Steelers being "infinitely better" with Pouncey in the lineup.
When Ben has been healthy, the Steelers have done quite well with Fernando Velasco, Doug Legursky and Cody Wallace at center. I think Wallace is holding it down quite well for a guy that isn't as athletic as the guy he is replacing.

I agree that it is time to cut the costs and move on with someone else. If you can't play, you should not be on the team.

I agree, has Pouncey ever played a full season without getting injured? I lost count of how many times we had to do without him in the playoffs because he was injured.
Best ability is availability and he never had it

He's only missed 3 games not counting this season or the year he tore his ACL.
It's not his fault teammates roll on his ankles. When he's healthy, he's the best in the game at the center position.

Hard to blame Pouncey for a post-surgical infection assuming he took his meds and followed instructions on wound care
Since he has been through multiple previous surgeries he presumably knows what to do
