damn the Steelers second half running game was great against the Bills tough run stuffing defense I mean the Bills couldn't stop it until they brought 9-10 players to stop it. now that is a running attack the will open up the pass offense.

Lets hope he doesn't get a flat tire next week. You know they want to play spoiler.

The first play after his stupid jump I saw his leg got bent very awkwardly and he got up limping a little. Thought for sure he was done for the day.

If we could run that well against Marcell Dareus, Kyle Williams and Co... We should be able to run it against anyone. Need more consistent performances like that.

That being said they need to spell Bell every so often, they're burning the tread off of him. I'm hoping DeAngelo is back for the Bengals game.

It would be nice to have him back in the fold. Having a health Williams back for the last 3 games and, hopeful, playoff run, would be H-U-G-E!

Kyle Williams didn't play yesterday. back injury. Maybe the fact Leger Douzable was replacing him in part helped with the performance.

but pulling the G Finney and a TE with a healthy FB Nix with the seal block was hard to stop mix in the inside zone run plays worked good together Bell is the prefect zone blocking RB.

Finney has some wheels for a O-lineman you couldn't run the pulling G and TE with Foster as the G.

Agree, Finney looks more athletic than Foster. Interesting too because his scouting report was that he was just a mauler of a C at Kansas St. Didn't have great feet. I feel good with Finney, Hawkins and Hubbard as reserves next season.

The offensive line will look to be even better next season with the potential depth. Like EGJ mentioned. Finney, Hubbard. Hawkins(he may be the future LT, he looked really good in camp) are going to be great depth guys. And also Matt Feiler, Brian Mihalik(AV 2.0?) are two players the coaching staff are high on also.

about time the Steelers get the o-line with depth fixed hopefully they all can pull I really like pulling o-line men who can block the second level.

the way this offense can throw the ball down field a running game that takes 8 defenders to stop would make me a very happy Steeler fan.

the way Finney played against the Giants you think Foster's day are numbered?

the way Finney could pull with a TE really got the outside edge and open up the Steelers inside zone blocking running against a good run defense.

with Foster playing OG the Steelers running game couldn't get the outside edge so a good Bengals run defense bottled up Bell on the inside zone runs.

I'm old School I like OGs who can pull and block the second level.

You should do some research on what "Inside Zone " really is. Your comments make little sense with regards to inside zone scheme.

Foster is 30 with 2 years left on his contract. He is playing the best football of his career, so I don't think his days are numbered. Finney should get a multi year deal in the offseason and 32 year old Cody Wallace will likely not be signed.

Blocking 2nd level is not old school, its actually new school fundamental to inside zone blocking. When Zeitler of the Bengals double teamed on McCullers, then scraped off the block to get to the ILB on the Jeremy Hill TD last week...that is what classically happens in an inside zone scheme on a regular basis. When DeCastro pulls left with the TE Johnson or Nix also lead blocking....that is actually a man blocking scheme outside counter play.

Really need to get the running game on track against the Ravens this weekend. They can't force it like they did the last game though. This time the gameplan needs to be attacking that Ravens secondary, and taking some guys out of the box. Then we hit them with Bell and Williams.

I understand what you are saying and I give props big time to Foster (kind of bait) and no on the o-line getting to the second level to block is not new, and you are right when the OG and the TE pull with the FB its man on man blocking like the old Green Bay Packer sweep what I'm getting at it really opens up the inside zone run which is a lot better then that outside zone run plays.

Guess what I saying its better to go man on man left or right to the outside which will soften up the middle for the inside zone run plays.

Inside zone needs a mauler at Guard that can displace the DT with a double team and then get to the ILB(depending on the front and count). In that way, Foster is perfect for inside zone runs. If you had a lighter and athletic OG that could pull outside for pitches, he isn't best suited for inside zone.

IMO, Foster is a better in line blocker than DeCastro is. DeCastro is more athletic to pull on outside counters. Its the same as when Alan Faneca had Keydrick Vincent opposite of him on the O line. Man blocking on outside counters doesn't setup inside zone.....its the other way around actually.

Yes! I am praying that Haley isn't going to be predictable with the run plays, because Baltimore's run defense is way too good for that! I say throw high% passes on 1st down. Ladarius Green is going to be key, but will he pass the concussion protocol? We really need him in this game or bring some drag routes in with Eli Rogers.

Does anyone know where the Ravens are weakest on run defense? I am assuming it's through either one of the C or D gaps.

They have solid gap control with their down lineman in Williams, Pierce and Jernigan. If you try to run to the edges often, I think Mosley and Orr just run those down easier than running inside. Last game, Jernigan seemed to be very disruptive, so I don't think success will come from trying to find a weak spot, as much as just physically being better blockers up front.

I expect more of spreading Bell out as a WR and using the short passing game like they opened the game against Buffalo with, to try and get mismatches in coverage. Then coming back to the run game once the Ravens D linemen get some pass rush reps under their belt and need to rotate out.

So do you think they will put Bell in motion and go empty from there? Or do you think they will have DeAngelo in the backfield with Bell split out?

I think both will happen, but for starters they will try and take a page from the Patriots* offensive playbook like they did in Buffalo. Gonna start with 2TE set and Bell so the Ravens have base personnel on the field, then go 5 wide and throw quick slants and screens. Can also run more crossing routes underneath with 1 TE set and WR's going deeper, the TE in the seam and both Bell and Rogers working the underneath crossing routes.

The Patriots* attack the Ravens defense well with crossing routes underneath, quick passes and TE seam passes, so I expect Haley to try and do some of that like in Buffalo. Then to come back to the run some and let that Steeler O line see if they can take advantage of some D linemen that have been in the pass rush. Good weather and having Green playing would be optimal, but the fact remains that Ben needs to be good on Sunday. 21 of 30 for 225 yards and 2TD with 0 INT kind of Ben game IMO.

Sounds like a great game plan to me! I hope Haley plans accordingly and follows through with it.

DW won't see 6 snaps in any game unless Bell is hurt, or we are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead.

Truth be told I wasn't paying much attention to who was playing for the Bills. Too busy watching Bell run past blue jerseys in a blur to catch the names. the running game 1797695198

Yeah not having Williams definitely hurt their run defense.

I read where Karlos Williams is facing another suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

If this is true why did we take a chance on this guy? I was wondering why there's been nothing reported on him as far as his status.

Why did we take a chance on him? Because he is a strong runner that is hard to tackle and has good speed for a big RB. Also, because his brother is a Steeler and the thought was likely that Vince could be a good influence on him.

It was once written, " If Hannibal Lechter ran a 4.3, he would be diagnosed with an eating disorder and signed to a contract".

Williams is likely done as a Steeler. He will get the Chris Rainey treatment and released if he hasn't been already. Unless he gets the Martavis Bryant treatment and is kept on the team while he serves his 1 year suspension.
