Did not take long for the ritual human sacrifices in Atlanta after the collapse

Falcons defensive coordinator Richard Smith and defensive line coach Bryan Cox have been fired by the Atlanta Falcons, according to the team.

Smith, a veteran coach, may stay on in an advisory capacity, but assessing his options.

The Falcons are considering three internal candidates in secondary coordinator Jerome Henderson, defensive backs coach Marquand Manuel and linebackers coach Jeff Ulbrich.

The Falcons pointed out that the decision to dismiss Smith and Cox was not based on the defense’s collapse in the Super Bowl.

Yep - no relationship at all between the firings and being outscored 31-0 to end the game

Smith would actually have been fired anyway. He had a big conflict with Dan Quinn during the season and from that moment Quinn had taken over defensive playcalling (and the defense got better). They didn't fire him at that point to avoid a distraction for the team.

Maybe he threw the game on purpose by calling the worst defenses, since he knew he was getting fired anyway Falcons Fire Defensive Coaches 1797695198
