I'm scratching my head about Grimble over JJ unless he had enough and needed to be somewhere else like Jak said. Roby would be an upgrade. The reason I see Tate being good for us is because I think Washington could play wide with Tate/Switzer taking the slot. We still need to draft a future WR to be able to move Washington back to the slot. Having said that we do well in later rounds on WRs so maybe a pass on Tate. Waffle waffle.
Drafting a TE is now in the cards. I don't think Vance is reliable enough, and Grimble has shown flashes, but was third on the depth chart for a reason.

I think Grimble may have more upside than JJ. James didn't have the killer attitude a quality TE needs after making a catch. He was a catch-and-hit-the-ground receiver and too easily brought down on first contact. With JJ gone, Grimble will have more opportunities to grow. For what it's worth, they are both #2 TEs at best. My opinion is that Grimble is the more athletic of the two and showed the desire to make plays.
I wouldn't be surprised if Ben wasn't asked: "James or Grimble?"

Funny I didn't see James as much not having the killer instinct as not being real coordinated. Because of that he was easy to bring down but I thought he at least tried to turn up field when he wasn't falling down. I'm just still a little pissed at Grimble for his bonehead fumble last year.

James got more than the Steelers handed out to any free agent.

Grimble's biggest fault on that play was that he carried the ball in the wrong hand. I don't fault him for trying to run the player over. Hell, that entire play was something JJ wouldn't have been able to pull off. Unfortunately the ball was in the hand the defender was going to hit, which is just bad form. Hopefully lesson learned.

Steelers sign Steven Nelson, former CB of the Chiefs.
Amid all the assholery we've been dealing with, Chick's statement is rather refreshing ...
Patriots* were in on Anthony Chickillo at similar deal to what he just signed with Pittsburgh, two years for $8 million. Chickillo said it was tempting but he wanted to win with Steelers. “It’s funny everybody’s counting us out,” Chickillo said. “You still have to play.”

Yeah, very refreshing. Reminds of Bryan Hinkle late 80's when Steelers were pretty bad saying he didn't care what he made he didn't want to leave the Steelers.

Are you kidding me? He's taking 13 mil a year....isn't that less than Steelers offered and that's not including the money he lost in 18. I'm thinking Bell finds success a little harder to come by in NY. At least AB didn't get him in Oakland

Yup. Give up $14.5M to get $13M/year. Good move genius!

Seriously? Jordan Berry was TERRIBLE this past year. Dude couldn't punt to save his life. Ugh.

Looks like we pick up a WR

For what it's worth Pro Football Focus ranks Steven Nelson the #21 in their Top 25 CBs in the NFL
Quote :
21. STEVEN NELSON, KANSAS CITY CHIEFS He may have allowed the second-most yards of any cornerback in the NFL (825), but it’s only because he was targeted eight times more than any corner in the league. His 53.1 percent catch rate and 76.8 passer rating allowed show how good Nelson really was this year.

I like the Nelson and Moncrief signings. I do not like them re-signing Jordan Berry. That makes absolutely no sense. That guy was absolutely terrible, and at his best average. They should've brought some different guys in to compete for the starting punter job. Instead they sign Berry to a new contract...
Other than that I'm interested to see if they'll make any more moves, and what they'll do in the draft since we've got 10 picks stacked up.

Signing Moncrief makes me wonder which WR will be gone. My hope is Hunter gets released. I think he's dead space but it could be DHB and or Rogers. Also does signing Nelson mean we go LB @ #1?
didn't Chickillo make an off color comment last year? If so he redeemed himself this year.

From what I read from some talking head on Twitter, Moncrief is an insurance policy. WR is still a need, but the Steelers won't reach for someone they like if it comes to it.
This isn't the source I read, but it says the same thing.
