Subject: Trade Deadline 2020 Mon Oct 26, 2020 10:26 am
Any thoughts? Normally, I say no. This year may be the exception. We're clearly in contention. Ben is in his last season or two. Biggest need is somewhere on the D, probably MLB or Safety. Maybe depth.

From a needs perspective, ILB might be the one area they would look to free-agency. With Bush down, they have Williams, Spillane, Gilbert, Marcus Allen (who really is a hybrid S/ILB) and Jayrone Elliott (called up from the practice squad). I really thought Gilbert was going to be the next guy up, but Spillane must have really impressed the coaches. Without seeing these guys in the preseason and coverage of training camping limited, we could only guess how these guys were viewed by the coaches.
I don't think they get another Safety. They brought back Davis, which is essentially a FA pick up.
The Steelers will take a FA if they feel there is an upgrade from what they currently have. The list of current ILB FAs is an aggregation of "who they hell is that?". Of course I'm embellishing a bit, however, outstanding FAs aren't going to fall into their lap at this point. For my own sanity, I'm thinking the Steelers face the rest of their schedule with what they have today.

I don't think they make any moves in free agency. In the last 2 games I thought Spillane has played good. I'll say one thing he's not afraid to bring the wood and we have Gilbert,Allen & Elliott. That's really the only area other than Oline maybe but I think we roll on.

I concur. Spillane has played quite well, and I love that he's going hard in practice and wearing out the other vets. They should all be going at his level.
i would have mixed emotions on such a trade. on one hand i would be thrilled to get a return on players who will likely have to be set free after the year because of salary cap reasons...on the other hand there is still this year and they are looking like a superbowl contender and those players may play a big role in deciding how far they go....

I'm with Master.
This is the YEAR. Don't trade any valuable parts that can help you win a Super Bowl. It might be our last chance in a while.

l don't remember Steelers making mid season trades should be an interesting off season if the salary cap is lower in 2021.

Steelers are close to a trade with the Jets for ILB Avery Williamson, according to several reports. The Steelers would get Williamson and the Jets’ seventh-round pick in the 2022 draft in exchange for the Steelers’ fifth-round selection in 2022, according to ESPN.

I don't know much about Wiliamson but the price seems good and it's good to have another ILB. Wouldn't mind seeing them picking up a veteran RB before the deadline too.

Spillane is a good / smart ILB but doesn't have the speed when the Steelers play a offense with QB who has some speed. would be nice to get a ILB in the mold of Bush having 2 sideline to sideline ILBers in this defense would great. flash back to James Farrior.
