Guess this really doesn't surprise me, but despite having beaten Aaron Donald in every major defensive statistical category outside of forced fumbles, TJ Watt was snubbed for DPOY with Donald receiving the award for the third time.
Disgusted with this to say the very least. They voted and gave the 2nd best player this season the award because of his name. Plain and simple. TJ played one less game this season than Donald and still dominated him statistically. Rams fans and Donald supporters keep citing Donald being double teamed, and they talk about how he's an interior lineman.
I'd say Watt's performance was not only more impressive from a statistical standpoint, it was more impressive when you consider that the Steelers literally ask him to do everything defensively. Aaron Donald wasn't getting dropped back into coverage and asked to cover RBs, TEs, and WRs. Watt was, and he did an admirable job of it. Watt was sound against the run and put up nearly 20 more TFLs than Donald despite having to play snaps in coverage in addition to being asked to stop the run and rush the passer.
I could go on and on, the only people that support Donald winning this award this season are Rams homers, and Steelers haters. I like Aaron Donald, and I think he's the best defensive lineman in all of the NFL and has been for some time. That being said, he didn't win this award, he got it handed to him by the biased AP voters who went with name recognition over performance.
