Subject: Steelers @ Rams 10/22 Gameday Thread Thu Oct 19, 2023 4:19 am
Just posting this up in advance.
Rams haven't been great but seem to be getting healthy at the right time with Cooper Kupp having returned from Injury. If Matt Stafford has time in the pocket I could see this game being a lot like the San Fran game because of the weapons that the Rams have offensively and our secondary being a liability. The way that Deebo and Aiyuk were able to carve us up worries me with the Rams having similarly talented receivers in Kupp and Nacua.
This pass rush will need to be on point in this game. One good thing we do have going for us is that Stafford is in the latter years of his career and he is a pocket statue. He's not a guy that's going to burn you with his legs so if they can collapse the pocket and create chaos we can win the game. If Stafford has time to sit back there and cook, then we're in trouble. I worry about this game because we all know Kevin Dotson and the Rams o-line have had this game circled on their schedule.

All the rams need to do is score 20 points and they win. They are very capable of doing so, and we have matt canada.

I don't know about you guys but I'm fed up with hoping the defense can win the game for us. Right now it doesn't even matter who our opponent is because they know all 5 of Canada's plays. I think there's 5 anyway. It could be 5 versions of the same play. It's a shame TJ,Alex,Cam,Minkah and the rest of the playmakers will not see a SB while they're here as long as the Tomlin Standard is in town and he has not shown any inclination to change his approach.

This team will be lucky to get to 9-7. Of course keeping Tomlins "never had a losing season" streak going and more mediocrity. Its ridiculously hard to watch football and has been for years.
I will watch it be because I am a fan but i am just expecting them to lose or win really close games because of some stellar play on Defense.
This is nowhere near a playoff CONTENDING team. The 49ers showed us that already.

The Saints ran more plays in the red zone last night (22) than the Steelers have all season (21).

I don't feel very confident about this game either. Unless our offense steps it up, I think we have zero chance to win. The Rams will just score too many points for us to catch up. And, I also fear it could be a blowout. Hope I'm wrong.

Oh look the Rams put Dotson at his natual position he played ALL OF COLLEGE at RG instead of what the Steelers did putting him at LG and look what happens...
Kind of like making a 3rd round pick for a Center but not taking an actual Center but a guy who played guard and telling him to start in the NFL at Center his rookie season... lol

Not sure if it's true but I read the Steelers have never won in L.A.

kevin dotson caught peoples eye when he filled in for decastro at RIGHT guard. kevin dotson played RIGHT guard in college. i read or maybe even heard him say on arthur moats podcast, i dont recall , kevin dotson said he was more comfortable playing on the RIGHT side. the Rams have dotson playing RIGHT guard.
so naturally tomlin puts him at left guard.
does anyone remember when max starks was starting at right tackle ? he was freakin terrible. moved to the left tackle which is considered a harder to play position, and immediately played better. when asked about it starks said, he felt more comfortable playing on the left. starks is left handed.

This has become the standard that Tomlin doesn't talk about: the square peg round hole standard.

I really hate the rule on that block. I understand it may be the right call but I don't like the rule. It wasn't a "blind" block, the guy was facing him.

So far, I like the offensive scheme and play calling from Matt Canada. I know - I can't believe I'm saying that either.
If it weren't for execution mistakes and dumb penalties, we'd have 7 on the board.
