Well nothing much has changed from last year...
Head scratching play calls. Run run pass... trick plays that lose yards right when you are moving the ball well... oh and the Bubble screen with C Austin blocking? Wtf?
Take the W but none of that garbage will look good against a Playoff team ATL isn't one of those.

I think Warren is still a bit dinged up. Had that hammy that was giving him problems.
I'll take the ugly win, they count the same as the pretty ones. If ugly wins didn't count, we'd be winless every year!

Yeah I think they wanted to have him limited today. Najee ran well. Patterson did too even with the limited snaps.
Najee looked better running off tackle he seemed a little quicker then what we have seen in the past.

is it weird that out of all NFL qb's , baker mayfield had the best week ? there was no shortage of garbage QB play.

Yeah, for all those that predicted our Steelers would finish in the basement - they can all bite us!

Highest rated team in the AFCN. Leading our division. 1 game up.
so what are ya'lls thoughts on the game ? anyone standout ? (besides the obvious TJ and pickens) who under performed ?. how do you feel about fields performance ? i only caught the end of the 3rd and the 2nd half. one name that stood out, because it didnt stand out was patrick queen. i dont remember hearing his name the entire time i was watching. the stats have him down for 2 tackles. thats one less than rookie payton wilson if my math is correct. that just seems kinda low for a 3-4 MLB.

I think over all the Defense did amazing but it was against a sub par offense that is all brand new and a new QB in cousins. As the game progressed the defense got stronger.
Fields did a damn good job with what he had to work with. They were stacking the box and Fields didn't make mistakes when there were 3rd and longs. He showed he has a really good arm to get the ball down the field and made some solid passes to Pickens when they let him.
Najee was running hard and seemed to hit the off tackle areas much quicker this year then last year.
For their first game with a new QB, rookie Center and back up LG they did enough.
Tomlin gets far to predictable inside the opponents 30 yard line. Not much changed there.
Lots of penalties that they need to clean up. A lot of them were drive killers.
Smith and the Offense have work to do but I think there was a lot of positives. Yeah they didn't get into the end zone but the second half of the game they were wearing out the Falcons defense and started imposing their will on them.
TJ is on a mission this year. If he stays healthy I expect him to have a ridiculous year especially with Herbig spelling him.
Wilson looked like he belongs out there. He may be the steal of the draft if he stays healthy. He was flying around the field when he was on it.
Elliot and Jackson got picks and looked really comfortable out there in their spots. There wasn't any frantic episodes on the Defense side of the ball. Everyone looked comfortable and were in the right spots and Queen was wearing the green dot so that was a good sign communication was good.

Hey MoP, wanted to shared some thoughts....
First, I feel pretty good about where the team is at. This is a young offensive line that has injuries and guys playing out of position, and I think they held up - somewhat. They weren't great - but they were "enough". They are only going to get better.
Justin Fields IS our QB. There is no doubt about it. Sorry for Russell but he's got a ton of money and can (and should) walk away from the game after this year. I'm not sure he's even our 2nd best QB at this time.
Justin is also a really good kid. He's not going to bring shame to your franchise (ahem, Cleveland?)
Also this - Caleb Williams was not very good. Obviously it's only his first game and he's likely to improve - but the Bears let the wrong QB go. Imagine what they could have built around Justin by trading that #1 pick. Their loss, typical Chicago move to F it up.
TJ Watt is AMAZING. Too bad he's not int he top 5 of defensive players in the NFL. Anyone who thinks there are 5 better defensive players in the NFL is probably high on drugs.
Our D is very good. Atlanta is supposed to have one of the best offensive lines in football. Our D would disagree.
Would like to see MUTH used more. Looks like they are starting to, but he can do a lot more.
Looking forward to seeing what Payton Wilson becomes. He looks beastly.
Looking forward to seeing what Roman Wilson becomes (wait a minute, did I just type that?). Once he's healthy, I think he's going to help the passing game a bunch. Someone has to step up and help George. I asked before but still wonder: as fast as Calvin is, why can't he get open? He should be more of a threat. He's definitely a good punt/kickoff returner. Why isn't he more of a factor in the passing game?
Boz is STILL the man. Scored ALL of our points. Even punted once.
Now for a note to the NFL: Does the front office see that the entire league is trolling them about the "dynamic kickoff"? Everyone is just kicking it into the end zone to skip the whole thing.
That's all I got, hope you can see the next one!

fields threw 23 passes. can anyone guess how many were to the middle of the field ? ....if you guessed ZERO , you are correct. this is how your play calling becomes predictable.

That's got Tomlins fingerprints all over it. Fitchner, Canada, now Smith... you're telling me that 3 OC's in a row refuse to utilize the middle of the field?

. That's some observant insight, I hadn't noticed that. MUTH in the middle would be a good option.

But, but, Kenny Pickett
There were a few flashbacks to Matt Canada calls. I'm not sold on Fields yet, reminds me me a lot of Kordell. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think the search for QB is over yet.
im not going to get too excited over a 156 yd passing day with zero tds, but i saw more promising things from fields in one game than from pickett during his entire starting stint here.
the offense was pretty vanilla , but thats to be expected with a new OC and a lot of new players.
i didnt count them but it seemed the bulk of the passing was from roll outs and bootlegs. dont know if they feel that plays to fields strength or if it shows a lack of confidence in the oline. last year with pickett i would have immediately guessed because of the oline. rolling the QB out also explains the lack of using the middle of the field.
i did see a look i dont think ive ever seen before . 4 TE's spread out . now all they have to do is throw some passes out of that formation , but it was brilliant for a short yardage designed QB run.
i dont know what the falcons DC was thinking, but i doubt going forward any other DC will be leaving pickens 1 on 1. its not like there was another big receiver threat on the field, so why would you not double pickens ?
this was on a 3rd an one. he got an easy 5 yds out of it. i hope they run this again but have him run it outside. looks like there is more yds to be had going outside.
