UPDATE: Mendenhall Suspended

The Steelers have suspended running back Rashard Mendenhall for one game for conduct detrimental to the team, it was announced today. Mendenhall will miss this weekend’s game at Dallas.

Mendenhall has played in just four games this year and has 113 yards rushing on 34 carries (3.3 avg.) with no touchdowns. He missed the first three games of this year with a knee injury and then missed four consecutive games with an Achilles injury. He was then inactive the past two games (Weeks 13-14).

The Steelers promoted Baron Batch from their practice squad to fill Mendenhall’s roster spot. Batch spent the first 10 games of this year on the team’s active roster but was then signed to Pittsburgh’s practice squad for Weeks 12-14.

size with some speed with good hands projected 4th round. might look good in a Steelers uniform.

Mike Gillislee RB Florida 5' 11" 210lbs projected 3rd round 4.56

a couple of mid round RB the Steelers could pick up.

I'm all for exploring other options at RB. I'm not 100% certain Dwyer is that guy yet. I think he can be if he puts in the hard work and gets himself in better physical condition in the offseason. He needs to come into camp next year in shape and ready to do whatever it takes to claim the starting job. I'm not convinced he's that hard of a worker yet. I hope he proves me wrong.

I said Mendenhall's days were numbered in the 'Burgh, but I didn't think they would be quite this soon. He's done here. For whatever reason, Tomlin doesn't seem to like the guy very much whether it be for his bad work ethic, his fumbles, his indecisive and inconsistent running, a bad attitude, or his off the field comments and beliefs. Tomlin seems to come down on him harder than any other one player on the team and there has to be a reason for it or a combination of reasons. It's best we just cut ties and both move on.

Steelers’ running back Rashard Mendenhall was suspended for this week’s game against the Dallas Cowboys and on Wednesday Coach Mike Tomlin addressed the suspension. Tomlin spoke about the suspension after practice, stating that Mendenhall did not attend the Steelers-Chargers game at Heinz Field last Sunday, but did not field any questions.

“Last Sunday, he was not at the game,” said Tomlin. “I deemed those actions a detriment to our efforts. I stated as such when I met with him that there were going to be repercussions with it. It was a good visit. He accepted it. He looks forward to coming back and rejoining his team on Monday and being a positive contributor to our efforts the rest of the way.
