The Steelers have claimed former Alabama quarterback John Parker Wilson off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Wilson (6-foot-2, 215) spent his first three years in the NFL on and off Atlanta's 53-man roster and practice squad. He was on both Jacksonville's 53-man roster and practice squad a year ago before being signed to a futures contract following the season.
The Jaguars released Wilson on Wednesday. The Steelers were the only team that put in a claim for the 27-year-old quarterback.
The Steelers were in need of a quarterback with backups Byron Leftwich and Charlie Batch both being unrestricted free agents.
Wilson holds nearly every Alabama passing record, but has never played a down in the NFL.
