he opened for iron maiden and he sucked. i honestly had never heard of him before that. (1986) . his music was just plain boring. he had a 5 minute guitar solo in every song.

Yeah, no doubt the man is a super-talented guitar player, but his music blows. Just because you are an instrumental wizard doesn't necessarily translate to being a great songwriter/performer. Conversely, punk bands like the Sex Pistols and Ramones were famously less-than-talented musicians or played very simple chords, but still made hugely influential and memorable music. It's the ability to craft a song that connects with people, has heart and soul, is meaningful, and stands the test of time that makes a great song. Yngwie was just a prodigal attention whore.

Since I'll be seeing Neutral Milk Hotel this weekend, here's a list of bands that I can remember seeing live:
Blues Traveler Barenaked Ladies (it was the 90s) The Who Robert Plant Iggy Pop (one of my favorites) Rolling Stones Jackson Browne Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Heartless Bastards (4 separate times) Lucinda Williams !!! (pronounced chick-chick-chick) Conor Oberst (once with and once without Bright Eyes) My Morning Jacket (twice) Wilco (twice) Bob Dylan (terrible these days)
