Willie Colon remembers it all.
When 71,000 fans observe a moment of silence and a giant U.S. flag covers the field at M&T Bank Stadium for the national anthem Sunday, the moment will resonate with Colon as much as anybody.
For the Bronx-raised, Hofstra-educated Colon, the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks will resurface memories painful and proud.
"I witnessed everything," Colon said. "I was there."
The 6-foot-3, 315-pound right tackle spoke soulfully in the Steelers' locker room after Friday's practice on the South Side, revisiting the day he watched the north tower of the World Trade Center collapse.
It was first day of college classes for Colon, a then-18-year-old freshman at Hofstra. Classes were cancelled because of the attacks, so Colon and some friends found a spot that offered a view of Lower Manhattan, 25 miles from the Hempstead, N.Y., campus.
Through crystal-clear blue skies, they watched events that would change the world forever.
