Max Starks not expected back with Steelers

In our Saturday post discussing the top-ten free agents remaining on the market, we suggested free agent tackle Max Starks as a fallback option in Pittsburgh should rookie Mike Adams not prove up to the task of protecting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s blind side.

Per FOX Sports’ Len Pasquarelli, Starks “isn’t likely to return to the Steelers again.”

Pasquarelli reports that “a few teams” have stayed in contact with Starks while he rehabs a torn ACL. Starks is expected to be medically cleared in two months.

Well that sucks. I hope it isn't true. Max would be a solid insurance policy in the event Adams doesn't live up to expectations this season.

The only way Starks comes back is if injury occurs. For the last several years our offensive line has definitely shown it's age - injury has plagued it and forced the Steelers to rely on a plethora of journeymen in order to build protection for Ben.

Now the Steelers have to force the youth in to position. There is no learning curve this year. Adams and DeCast are going to have to step up and learn the system quickly - needless to say they are also going to have to learn how to protect Ben from the likes of Suggs, Lewis, etc.
