When you blitz this many times, it's not hard to see why Timmons had a monster game.

Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons hasn’t provided much in the way of splash plays through the first three games of the season mostly because he wasn’t put in positions by defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau to do so.
That changed in the Steelers 16-14 win over Philadelphia.

Instead of dropping into coverage against a tight end, LeBeau sent Timmons after Eagles quarterback Michael Vick mostly every time the Steelers called a blitz.

That led to Timmons having his best game of the season as he led the team with nine tackles, two quarterback hits, two quarterback pressure, two tackles for losses and a forced fumble.

Timmons blitzed 18 of the 21 times LeBeau sent more than four rushers at Vick.

When we get pressure on the quarterback, our defense plays well. When we allow a quarterback to sit in the pocket and pick us apart, it makes for a long game.

I can only imagine that we will be seeing Timmons more in this role. He was a rock star in the Eagles game if you ask me.

On 12/02/2012 the Steelers beat the Ravens with their 3rd string QB! Charlie Batch! AWESOME!

No doubt. We just need to get pressure on the QB. LeBeau has had both Timmons and Woodley dropping into coverage way too much this season.

Let's hope that changes because Timmons can be very effective when he's given the chance. Not only did he put pressure on Vick he was making tackles in the backfield too.
