0-4 (The Thread Formerly Known as 0-2)

I want you all to think about this:

So we're 0-2.  There is no sugar coating it:  it just isn't good.  Let's say we win the next 2 and we move to 2-0.  We'd be flying high now.

2 games down the road, we are 2-2.  Does it matter (in your mind) how we got there?  Is being 0-2 then winning to 2-2 better than being 2-0 and losing to 2-2?  Let's say we make it to 4-2, does that erase what has happened?

All I'm saying is that we are 2 games in and 2 turnovers from it all being a different ball game.  The turnover last night was a 14 point swing, as well as very demoralizing.  The phantom tripping call also didn't help.

The game against the Bears is going to be HUGE.

Steelers have went 0-2 to start the season on four occasions, and each season ended with a winning record.

As long as Haley is making the offensive play calling blunders and not letting Ben run the offense, this trend will continue.

To me it's the trend. They were losing the same way at the end of last year and are basically doing the same thing now.

Winners create opportunities (turnovers). Losers don't.

Agreed. Last night's game was better than the Titan game. I think the Bengals defensive front 7 is much better than the Titans and I thought Ben had some time to throw that he didn't have last week. Strange to say it because the score doesn't reflect it, but I thought I saw a slightly better Steelers team this week. Obviously they still have a lot of issues to work out before they can hope to win games, but it's not like they got jacked by a much better team.

I'm pretty sure we'll be 0-4 going into the bye week. If we're really lucky we'll pull out a win against the Vikings and go 1-3.

I don't want to, but I'm going to have to agree with sup. And honestly, I can't point a finger at just one or two reasons why. I just think they are bad this year. I pray that I am wrong. I don't mind eating crow at all......I just don't see it happening this year.

Two games into the season, it doesn't matter to me if our record is 2-0, 1-1, or 0-2, especially when all the other teams in the division are struggling as well. Watching both games, I saw lots of things to be concerned about, lot of things that need fixed ... but not once did I think, "Wow! This team sucks!" Sure, they're not playing well right now and they've got a lot of work to do, but the team doesn't suck. We're not the Browns or the Jaguars. All the pieces are there ... it's just a matter of getting those pieces to click. The question is whether they can get the problems fixed before it's too late. But we're only two games into the season. There's a lot of football left. It's not how you start ... it's how you finish.

Exactly. How many playoff teams usually sneak in right around .500? Tom Brady is struggling this year, too. The difference is: they eeked out the wins (by one or two plays)

Yeah, there was the stat shown on Monday night that it's been a few years since a team started 0-2 and made the playoffs. However, I'm thinking the Steelers should be more concerned with being 0-1 in the division. Win the division and you're in ... and you have 5 more divisional games to go.

The question is, WHEN DO THEY TURN IT AROUND?

We can't wait til week 8 to turn everything on. The players have to be better - together, as a unit. The coaches needs ot know when things are happening and how to either let the team continue on it's path (because it's all good) or make on the fly changes (because shite ain't working).

I'm just wondering if I should hide my head in the sand when we play the Ravens. I love my black and gold -- always will, but my black and gold colored glasses are off. If it isn't the O-line it's Ben, if it isn't Ben it's the D. If it isn't our wideouts it's special teams.

The team just ain't gelling this year. I'm getting closer and closer to finger pointing and a few of my fingers are starting to point towards the coaching staff.

They haven’t picked lower than 11th overall (since Ben Roethlisberger in 2004) but it hasn’t been the first-round where the Steelers have erred most. Tackles Mike Adams (2012) and Marcus Gilbert (2011) – both second rounders – aren’t complete busts but they’re fast approaching it. Both were benched at points in Sunday’s loss in favor of Kelvin Beachum, a seventh-round pick last season. The Steelers simply can’t afford those kinds of errors in judgment. Not anymore.

Speaking of which, if this wasn’t a rebuilding year before, it is now. The Steelers need to see more of what they’ve got in Shamarko Thomas (one tackle vs. Bears) and Markus Wheaton (targeted just once).

What has to be the most frustrating part of what’s becoming a wasted season for Ben Roethlisberger is that the quarterback is still in his prime. At 31, chances grow slimmer for another Super Bowl ring.

While Roethlisberger is certainly glad to have Heath Miller (three receptions for 35 yards) back, Mike Wallace – or some other game-breaker -- is what’s needed.

Since the NFL/AFL merger, the Steelers have opened a season with three straight losses in 1970, ‘86, ‘00 and this year. The lesson? Even the best of organizations are going to stink every 13 to 16 years. By the way, the 2000 Steelers finished 9-7 but missed the playoffs.

Why does it feel like Steelers Nation has become browns country? Yeah, we're 0-3, and it sucks, but damn it's not like we go through this for an extended period of time or that we're always this dismal in the beginning of the season.

There is reason for optimism. Every week, the Steelers have improved on the offense, and the defense continues to do their job.

I say we get to 1-3, go in to the BYE week, and come out rejuvenated.

To be honest, I felt really good going into the Bears game and we came out in the beginning digging ourselves a hole we couldnt get out of and looking ugly. If it's not dropped passes one game, it's fumbles and picks in the other. If its not the crappy o line, its the run game shitting the bed the next game. Do we get everything fixed this week? I don't know, but you can bet your ass if we go 0-4 into a bye week, playoff hopes are GONE.

Not necessarily Drizz, remember the year the Titans started 0-4, and ended the season 12-4.

Do you really think with what you have seen from this team thus far, that we have the capability to win out? I'm a die hard fan and always will be, but just because I WANT to hit the lottery, doesn't mean I'm going to or it's possible.

I believe this team is better than 0-3, and I believe they will respond to this dire situation. Start with this one, and head in to the bye week with some positive momentum.

Now THAT, I'm with you on.

The bad news: We're now officially 2 games out of third place.

The good news: We're still only 2 games out of first place.

There's still a lot of football left to be played. There's not a dominant team in the division, and we still face the Ravens and Browns twice and the Bengals once. The season isn't over. Yet.

*I made this post assuming that the Bills will hang on and beat the Ravens.

Just a thought ... am I the only one who would take Max Starks over Mike Adams right now?
