The Chargers have a vacancy at fullback, and their top blocking tight end is coming off a significant knee injury.
On Wednesday, they added a veteran who can do both.
Former Steelers tight end David Johnson signed a two-year contract, the team announced. Primarily a blocker, the 6-foot-2, 260-pound veteran has experience at fullback as well, able to fill multiple roles as needed.
