The Official "We're Over .500" Thread...Steelersxtreme Edition

I started this thread a while ago on Steelers Fever and none of those bastards over there are participating with me! So I figure why the hell not start it here! The Pittsburgh Pirates are three games over .500 and just 1.5 games out of the division lead. How about that. Holy shit!


The Pirates are a legitimate contending squad this year, and they have been decimated by injuries. When this team gets back to full strength, get ready, they are going to really turn some heads!

I'm not much of a baseball fan, but of course I'm going to cheer for anything related to Pittsburgh. I'm happy to see them return to respectability.

I'm not sure if you'll get much more participation here, mcg. Half of these heathens aren't even Pirates fans.

Hey I'm already getting more participation here than I am at Steelers Fever! Head over there and check out my thread in the Pirates section, I've made about 17 straight posts in a row to myself! I would probably consider myself a bigger Pirate fan than I am a Steeler fan, I just love baseball. Even if you aren't a baseball fan, the Pirates are doing some great things and you might wanna tune in!

I know we've got a few big Pirates fans here, so hopefully you get some participation. I won't be able to contribute much, but I'll follow along.

The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Houston Astros convincingly at home tonight 5-1! Jeff Karstens goes 7 innings giving up 7 hits but just one run. Brandon Wood dialed long distance and added another RBI single to vault the Pirates over Houston tonight!!! The Buccos move to 4 games over the .500 mark and if the Arizona Diamondbacks cling to their 7-2 lead over the Brewers in the 7th inning, the Bucs will claim sole possession of 2nd place in the NL Central!

We need to finish the sweep of Houston tomorrow and then do the same to the Cubs... charlie morton on the bump tomorrow...Must pile on now because after the all-star break, pirates have a crucial homestand beginning july 17 against reds and cards... then we have 16 straight games against Brewers, Cards and Reds beginning Aug. 12....

the first winning season in PNC Park history?? Can't wait to get back down there -- and this time for more than just the tailgaiting

YEAH we have a new guy on the Bucco Bus! Good to see! Yes, the Pirates have a very difficult schedule after they complete their three game set with the Astros after the all star break. I think they will rise to the occasion like they have so far the entire season, but it would be nice to stockpile some wins just in case...which is exactly what they're doing by putting the ASStros in their place!

pirates have exorcised a lot of demons this year, like learning how to win on the road.... but i will know they are for real when they finally stand up to the brewers.... that team has been kicking our ass for way too long... eager to see how they fare against the brewers in coming weeks...... maybe tabata and alvarez will be back by then (although alex "elvis" presley has shown he can hit)... alvarez wasn't doing much when he was healthy, but with his talent, that could all change quickly ....

KEEP BATTLIN BUCS, I LOVE IT!

Just a feel good win for the BATTLIN BUCS today! Last game before the All Star break and we really wanted a win today, the Bucs crush the Cubs 9-1 to win the series. Andrew McCutchen drove in 5 runs just a day after he was inducted into the All Star game. Walker crushed the ball today, with two doubles and a triple. Maholm went 7 2/3 innings just giving up 1 run.

Not much went wrong for the Bucs today. Great game, and if the Reds hold on to their one run lead in the last inning against the Milwaukee Brewers, we will move into a second place tie. The Dbacks need to rally against the Cardinals for us to move into first place, but I'm not holding my breath.


We don't play for quite a while, but I'll probably keep this thread going because we're still above .500, and it doesn't look like our Buccos are looking back!!!!!!!

Keep it going, McFly. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm following it. And I'm actually starting to pay attention a little more. I keep waiting for the "inevitable collapse," but it hasn't happened yet. It's been a long time since Bucs fans have been excited this late in the season.

That's the thing, we are way passed the annual collapse. Usually the Pirates start out like 17-9 and get fans really excited, then they implode into a 10 game losing streak and the fans all tune out again. It has gone on way too long this year and it just simply won't happen. The Pirates finally believe in themselves, and the fans believe in them too.


Baseball is my favorite sport, and for whatever reason the Pirates have always been much more special to me than the Steelers. I'm a huge Steeler fan, don't get me wrong, but the Pirates have always had a special place in my heart. And being an 18 year old Pirate fan and NEVER having seen a winning Pirate team, this summer is a whole new experience for me.


I take the Pirates way too seriously. I'm usually a pretty angry person on days they lose. In past years it hasn't been bad because I was so used to losing that I didn't even care, but this year when they lose, I get mad. On the contrary, when they win, I'm usually quite pleasant. Is this good or bad, I don't know, but there's nothing I enjoy doing than watching the Pirates play baseball.

I hope they keep this going because it has been so fun to watch. I've never had a summer where I've been able to watch meaningful baseball games, and that's what I've been doing all summer long. It's an awesome thing.

The Buccos beat the Astros tonight 4-0, getting the main run support from Andrew McCutchens 2 run triple and Neil Walker's 1st inning RBI single. Awesome way to start out the first half Pirates! Oh and not to mention.....WE'RE IN FIRST PLACE BABY! HOW BOUT IT! YOUR BUCCOS ARE THE BEST TEAM IN THE NL CENTRAL. LET'S DO THIS!

Bucs lost a bad one tonight. Son of a bitch. Should have won that game. Don't feel like doing my usual post game wrapup, that was embarrassing. Let's go get em tomorrow and make it all feel better.

Big comeback win earler today for da Bucs in Texas. Joel Hanrahan got his first blown save of the year in the 8th inning, but it really wasn't his fault as Veras was yanked for giving up a lead off base hit and a couple of really hard hit outs. The Bucs came back though and scored 3 runs in the 11th inning. Alex Presley was huge tonight as he had three RBIs, Kevin Correia also had a two run double in the second inning.

All in all, pretty crazy game, certainly not one that makes me EXTREMELY excited to face the Reds, but a wins a win, we'll take it.
