| So what's the deal with Grant? No roster... no practice squad??? Beat writers are always chiming how good he looks in practice. What's the real story with Grant? Anyone have a clue? | |

| He hasn't looked good in games. Good tackler, doesn't do anything else well enough. _________________ Known as BLACK_AND_YELLOW from SF

If the writers had a clue they would be drawing NFL coaches salaries, not local newspaper salaries As posted earlier, he reportedly blew some coverages in preseason Once Gilbert came in he was odd man out

Once Gilbert came in he was odd man out Just seemed like he had potential. At least for PS. One might also say that if the coaches and GM knew what they were doing, our secondary wouldn't suck so bad. But I won't mention that.

| It looks like the Bills are trying to make up for last years mistake in letting Cockrell go.
They released Cockrell. The Steelers picked him up, and he played well in a new system. They now look at a guy like Grant being released by the Steelers, and they think he will fit their system and what they are trying to do.
You would think they are looking at him as a safety. They play a lot of man coverage in Ryan's defense, and that is not Grant's strength. But as a safety that is a good tackler and that also has experience at CB, they see the potential of a safety that can also cover.
They're kicking the tires to see what they get. Maybe they'll find a diamond in the rough like the Steelers did with Cockrell. _________________ I'm a shell of my former self.

Pretty much, I think he would have made the team if we didnt strike that deal with Cleveland. Too much potential at a low cost to not go for it. Heck I like the move.

Agreed, Grant is suited to play a zone corner role and he kept WR's in front of him, but wasn't yet challenging for pass breakups. He tackles well and at 200lbs could have made the move to safety long term. The potential of Gilbert for a 6th round pick is too good to pass up and it pushed Grant out of the last CB spot, so time to sit back and watch if Gilbert works his way into some reps. Heck, if Gilbert catches on in his 3rd NFL season, there is potential for Gilbert to play outside in nickel and Gay move inside.

| Listening to SNR, Craig Wolfley mentioned that during the Panthers' game, Tomlin was pretty peeved with Grant. Wolfley didn't know what happened, but Tomlin provided one of those glares toward Grant. We've been questioning his athleticism, etc, but it might just be possible he wasn't coming up to speed on the defense. | |
