Byron Leftwich's broken left arm may not cause him to miss the entire 2011 season, though it has not been determined how long he will be out, a source told the Post-Gazette.
Leftwich, the team's No. 2 quarterback, was injured while scrambling on the first series of the third quarter in Saturday night's 34-16 victory against the Atlanta Falcons.
The Steelers have not updated Leftwich's condition and probably won't do so until he is fully evaluated.

| As long as we don't waste a roster spot all season long only to find out he can't come back ala Aaron Smith. _________________ -"I stand corrected... But I absolutely and wholeheartedly fart in the general direction of almost every other thing you have posted to this point."- | |

| Leftwich has surgery on broken arm
By Ralph N. Paulk, PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW Monday, August 29, 2011
• Steelers quarterback Byron Leftwich had surgery on his broken left arm Sunday, according to a tweet by fellow backup Charlie Batch. Leftwich, who was expected to be the No. 2 quarterback behind Ben Roethlisberger, could miss the entire season. He suffered the injury Saturday when he landed awkwardly after scrambling for 6 yards during a 34-16 win over Atlanta at Heinz Field. Leftwich was penciled in as the starter a year ago after Roethlisberger had been suspended to open the season. But a knee injury in the final preseason game sidelined him for much of the season.
• Batch, a 14-year veteran, and fourth-year man Dennis Dixon will vie for the No. 2 spot. Dixon, who took a heavy hit on his first pass attempt Saturday, finished 1 of 3 for 13 yards. Batch did not play but could audition for the job when the Steelers close the preseason Thursday at Carolina.
