College Football 2018

How's your team doing this season fellas?

My Hawkeyes seem to be unable to get a passing game going, but our defense is one of the top defenses in college football currently and has only given up 10 points in two games. So far we're 2-0 with victories over Northern Illinois (MAC Team many picked to win the MAC this year), and Iowa State (a huge rival, and a team that seems to be on the rise).

Interested to see how the rest of our season goes. How fare you guys?

Penn State barely escaped Appalachian State, but then came to Pittsburgh Saturday night and put the whoopin' on the Panthers! Yeah that was fun to watch.

Ohio State vs TCU was a great game, Ohio State's defense survived 2 and 3/4 quarters of lightning fast TCU offense didn't wear down like TCU offense did in the 4th quarter. showed me how deep OSU's defense is with quality talent.

Ohio State offense didn't show up until later in the game because TCU's defense was playing lights out for the 1st 3/4 quarters but wore out in the 4th quarter.


this OSU team is a very good team right now, I'm going to enjoy watching this team get better and better as the season goes on.

does OSU have to play Iowa this year?

Haha, lucky for OSU they don't!

OSU does look pretty good, was reading that Nick Bosa had to get surgery though and is out for the season. That's definitely a huge loss for that defense.

My Hawks seem to have a very good defense this year, but the offense has been very lackluster. Our best offensive outing came against the Northern Iowa Panthers last Saturday where we put up 38 points. But it was against an FCS school, and by Northern Iowa's standards (they're usually pretty respectable) they just didn't look very good. So it's hard to say if our offense was an actual improvement, or if it was a product of playing against a weaker FCS opponent.

And tonight, I get to watch PSU on FS1, take on Illinois.

Not sure how this is TV worthy, but living in Tampa, I'll take it.

i heard there's a call for a white out in Happy Valley 9/29, I'll be watching for a clear out starting half way though the 3rd quarter on 9/29.

I just found out, we have a family birthday party celebration (my M-I-L and wife) on Saturday at 4pm, returning to the in-laws house for dessert. I'm not sure I'm going to be home for kickoff, let alone the first half.

Well my Hawks sure shit the bed against Wisconsin. We were the better team, I have no doubt. If we had better coaching I think we'd of won the game. I cannot for the life of me figure out why with 5 minutes left on the clock and three timeouts at your disposal that you'd come out running a vanilla defense, no blitzing, and keep all your timeouts while you let Wisconsin run the ball down your throat and burn 4 minutes off the clock. At least blitz them and make them beat you by throwing the ball. If they do that, at least there's likely more time left and you give your offense a better chance at trying to get down the field to score. This game was like a copy of the Big Ten Championship a couple of years ago where Iowa was defeated by Michigan State in almost the exact same manner. Wisconsin plays the same brand of football as Iowa, and they out Iowa'd Iowa.

I blame Kirk Ferentz and his coaching staff. Our offense simply isn't built to score quickly. We don't have playmaking receivers on the outside. Our best pass catchers are our TEs, and the strength of this team is it's running game. You have to understand that and try to put your offense in the best position that you can to end the game, and Ferentz once again failed at that.

Frustrating loss to say the least. I truly believe we were the better team and that poor decision making cost us the game.

damn that was heck of a game, Penn State's last offensive play call 4th and 5 yards for the 1st down and Franklin calls a read option run when McSorley was making Ohio State's defense his bitch all 4th quarter.

I'll take the OSU win.

The 4th down call was the worst call of the game.
The Penn State defense, at times, reminded me of the Steelers defense - couldn't tackle and chasing WRs.

Penn State had the game in hand and instead of pushing, they let up. OSU took advantage of it.

This is like the single biggest issue with my Hawkeyes. They don't keep their foot on the gas, they get a lead, no matter how small and go into conservative mode.

I would rather go out fighting, than go out with a whimper.

this is what I like about the college game over the pro game the clock stop after 1st downs until the ball is set and the reason not to get conservative on defense. it like mini time outs keep the pressure on until the clock hits :00 imo in the long run you'll win more games then you'll lose doing this.

I wish they had the time stop for 1st Downs in the NFL, but I feel as though if they did that, then the games would be even longer. The NFL is already getting ridiculous with the lengthy replay reviews of anything and everything and the over-officiating of certain penalties.

The clock could at least stop while the officials reset the ball. They take too much time out of the game because they are slow and awkward getting the ball marked.

Penn State simply isn't good this year. They are a very average team, at best. This is coming from someone who watches the game.

The heat is starting to build under Franklin. Not so much for W/L records, but the simply piss poor coaching.

I would pick Iowa straight up.

Going to be a good one, Iowa vs Penn State always seems to be a close game. Interested to see if Penn State can match up with our defense, this time they won't have a phenomenal talent in Saquon Barkley to lean on. Iowa just shut out Maryland, and our defense has been dominant all season. McSorley is going to have to put the team on his back to win this one.

But Penn State seems to bounce back from lousy games well. Let's face it, although they won this past weekend, they weren't impressive. I'm hoping they live up to the hype and beat Iowa back a few notches.

McSorley will have to have the confidence of his coaches in order to carry the team. Against OSU, I believe the coaches didn't allow him to do his thing late in the game and the conservativeness cost them.

I'm hoping they let him run the game the way he's done in the past. Otherwise, it's either going to be one of those shoot out games or one where Iowa dominates them defensively and it's a low scoring game.
