Anyone into retro game collecting? I collect just about everything dating back to the NES days. Been trying to build my collection over the past few years. I'll have to share some pictures on here of my little game room that I've got going on. Was just curious though if any of you guys are into collecting as well.

I'm a gamer, but I tend to offload my stuff. I'm not much into collecting the stuff, mainly due to lack of room for it and most of my extra money goes to my kids and their various activities.

I've always kept quite a few current games, but only recently decided to go ahead and start collecting retro. Started off fairly small, got a big boost when a coworker gave me a couple of PS2 Systems, and about 65-70 games or so. Have just been building on that.

Does that count?
Haha why not?
Some day I'm going to get my hands on a record player and dabble in that.
My collection started with my mom's vinyls I brought with me when I moved to FL in 2000. Didn't even have a record player. About 5 years ago my brother-in-laws and sister-in-law got me one of those 6-in-1 players for Christmas. It was shortly after that I began my collection. Mostly 80's hair bands (Tesla, Van Halen, Crue) but a few 70's bands. Now every time I go out of town, I try to find a local record shop and add to my collection.
Recently I had to build a new holder as my collection out grew my first record bin. So I combined my record player with my liquor cabinet.

Finished my latest project about a week or so ago. Bought a Gameboy Advance SP from a gentleman on Facebook Marketplace. It is the highly sought after AGS-101 model that has the brighter backlit screen. The only issue was that he had dropped it and broken the shell near one of the hinges. I scored the SP and an authentic copy of Pokemond Leaf Green Edition for only $30! AGS-101 models are usually worth about $80 in decent shape, an the Pokemon Leaf Green is worth $30 by itself so I basically got the system for free. Heckuva deal.
I bought a clear purple replacement shell with a model sticker to match the system. I also ordered a replacement glass lens so I could get rid of the old plastic one. $20 for the whole setup and I already had the tools to install it this time as I just repaired another Gameboy of mine not too long ago as well. Here's how it turned out.

Picked up this guy last weekend. 6ft tall. Rare fiberglass Master Chief statue that was sent out promotionally to certain stores during the game's launch. Some guy had it locally and I only paid $200 for it. These can sell for over $2,000 to the right buyer.

Not sure if anyone is paying attention to this thread anymore but it's something to do at night so I thought I'd update it with a couple projects I've worked on as of late:
Acquired my childhood indigo Gamecube from my brother. Decided to modify it. Swapped out the stock fan with a much quieter fan in a 3D printed bracket. De-soldered the original battery (system clock) and soldered in a batter holder with a new battery for more convenient battery swaps down the road. Bought an all-new smoked shell and swapped out some of the original parts to give it a black on purple two-tone look. Decided on a Resident Evil theme because I'm a huge Resident Evil fan, and the Resident Evil Remake was pretty much the sole reason I bought this Gamecube as a teenager. Also soldered in some LEDs to light up the controller ports for a nice custom touch.
Also heavily modified the original controller. Upgraded the original stickboxes (joysticks) to a more reliable version from later Gamecube controller releases. Replaced the back half of the shell with a smoke/black to match the two tone console. Desoldered and removed the original controller cable and soldered in a new custom paracord-wrapped cable. Replaced all buttons with custom made high-quality resin buttons down to the triggers and joysticks. Planning on an LED kit that reacts to button inputs here in the nearer future. De-soldered and replaced the old squishy Z Button with a new tactile button so it's more "clicky" when you press it like a modern controller.
Bought a Gamegear off of FB Marketplace with a carrying case, TV Tuner, and Rechargeable Battery for only $20! The Gamegear is notorious for faulty capacitors and nearly every original GG has to be recapped as a result for them to work properly. This was no exception and was the toughest test of my amateur soldering skills yet. Recapped the GG (and replaced the power board) and got it functioning once again. Took things a step further and upgraded the ugly washed out original CFL backlit LCD screen for a brand new IPS screen courtesy of BennVenn. Night/Day difference. I also replaced the screen protector with an actual glass one instead of plastic. Much cleaner look as a result. One of my proudest projects so far. Soldering in the screen was no small feat, definitely not for beginners but I got it done! I also have a set of clear black buttons on order for this old GG.

Currently modding up an Xbox 360 controller. So far I've given it a good cleaning. Had to adjust the bumper buttons on the board as they get bent down over time and then button presses don't register. Replaced the thumbsticks with brand new "Lava" colored sticks that have black pads with a clear red base. Replaced the OEM D-Pad with a Playstation style 3D Printed one, but will be replacing that with a "transformable" D-Pad that was found on late model Xbox 360 controllers. The Playstation style D-Pad is OK, but needs some fine tuning, and a smoother overall fit/finish to be a long-term viable option. Going to replace the gray trim on the bottom potion of the controller with a clear red piece that hopefully matches up or at least gets close to the base of the thumbsticks.
Might also do red LEDs instead of the green around the Xbox button. Haven't decided on that yet.

Another recent project. My wife had a coworker with a GBA SP that was non-functional and in need of some TLC. She only wanted it to work so she could play a Scooby Doo game she had as a kid.
I fixed it, free of charge. A good cleaning was all it needed. I took things a step further though and asked her if she wanted it to get re-shelled in a color of her choosing. She was pretty excited and picked out a clear blue. So I ordered up the parts and re-shelled her childhood GBA SP, gave it a glass screen protector, and some new glow-in-the-dark conductive silicone pads and screw covers as another little custom touch.
Fun and easy project, and was happy to pay things forward to a friend/coworker of my wife all the while helping to preserve a little piece of her childhood.
