We know who the Steelers will play next season - probably the toughest schedule since the 2008 death march
Home: Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers
Away: Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers, New England Patriots*, St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks
Tonight we find out when
Peter King at MMQB is among those (including me) who guess the Steelers are the likely suspect to play the Thursday night season opener against New England Pittsburgh at New England, Sept. 10.
I’ll tell you why: Ben Roethlisberger.
Last year, when NFL schedule overseer Howard Katz and his staff finished making the 2014 schedule, I talked with them about the ins and outs of it. And what was important for the opener of the season was a competitive game—more than anything else. So what do we have as candidates in a relatively weak New England home schedule? Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, along with the refurbished Buffalo Bills and New York Jets. Tom Brady will be on one side, and the Patriots* will be favored against any team on the other sideline that first night. But the one thing the NFL can’t have is a 24-3 game at halftime. Pittsburgh is the best insurance against that risk. The four quarterbacks on the contending teams for the first game:
Philadelphia, likely with new quarterback Sam Bradford, who has missed 25 of his last 32 games with back-to-back ACL surgeries in 2013 and 2014. What if he gets hurt again, or is rusty coming back to the game?
The Jets, with Ryan Fitzpatrick or Geno Smith. Could be a debacle by halftime.
Buffalo, with Matt Cassel or EJ Manuel. Less of a chance to be a debacle at halftime, but there’s still that chance.
Pittsburgh, with two-time Super Bowl champ Roethlisberger at the controls, a gunslinger capable of playing a four-quarter shootout with Brady.

i guess i will watch the 2 hour schedule orgasmfest on nfl network tonight. a recent nfl network poll showed the majority of fans wanting to see rex ryan, shady, and the bills playing the Patriots* on opening night, so we will see.
the nfl may be wanting to throw the bills new owners a bone.

I will be writing a full article about Goodell f*cking this team over royally the last few seasons. Just remember, that 0-4 skip in 2013 had 2 straight primetime games, a trip to London and a short Thursday Thanksgiving gift at Baltimore.
Last year, guess what? Open against 2 division opponents, and AGAIN, Baltimore on the road, on a short week. Oh yeah, we got the same referee from the Thanksgiving fiasco for our home playoff game too.
I don't expect any different this year. Probably open on the road against the World Champion. At least that means no Thursday in Baltimore. I'd rather they reciprocate and give us Hairball's team AT HOME ON A SHORT WEEK, but that will never happen with Roger's darling team.
I fully expect to play the Pats* and the Ravens during Bell's suspension too.
Oh and don't forget, Hairball b*tched about a play and now it's illegal. No result to Deflategate yet either. But somehow we've seen Ben get 4 games when Vick got 2, and Bell gets 3 when Blount gets 1.
I hope this team is ready to face adversity because there's plenty of it coming. Deck is always stacked against them, or so it seems.

damn! nope... cant do it. talk about squeezing blood out of a rock.
i can barely watch their current draft programming anymore since it is the same old tired, redundant crap they have already discussed ad nauseum. and i thought the 24-7 johny manziel coverage last year was bad. i flip the channel any time i hear the names "jameis" or "mariota" anymore.
a 3 hour discussion of the schedule is certain to turn into a 2 hour discussion about the Patriots* and tim tebow.

Or how about the advertisement stating who will have the best path to Super Bowl 50! Hahaha, right! We already know what teams we're facing, damn near all the teams we're facing next year too.
And how can someone make such a statement about Super Bowl 50 favorites when we haven't had a complete off-season, let alone a draft yet?

It will be interesting to see who we play during Bell's suspension, when the bye week is.... and west coast games. Steelers will probably get royally screwed in all phases.

Primetime home game to open at home in week 2 (against Baltimore, with Clete Blakeman officiating) then travel to Seattle...

Steelers last year played well against the tough teams and lost to the lollipop ones. I like the schedule. Sure it can make for a rougher road but it also holds the team accountable to bring their A game each and every week. The defense is going to have a trial by fire and sometimes that's the best way to grow in a hurry.

I like the schedule from the standpoint that it's a challenge. I dislike the scheduling when teams like the Patsies have a cake division to play in, and then they get cake out of conference games on top of that. Shouldn't the defending champs* get a tougher schedule?
