Report: Steelers hire Todd Haley as offensive coordinator

Todd Haley is following in his father’s footsteps and joining the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Dick Haley played for the Steelers and was their longtime player personnel director and now his son will reportedly be the team’s offensive coordinator. Marc Carman of 610 AM in Kansas City had the initial report on Monday afternoon, which was later corroborated by Chris Mortensen of ESPN. The team has yet to make an official announcement.

When word broke that the Steelers were interviewing Todd Haley for the opening last week, there was some thought that it was simply a courtesy given his father’s long record of service with the organization. That appears to be incorrect with Haley bouncing back from his ouster in Kansas City in a pretty good situation to flex his offensive muscles.

Former Chiefs Head Coach To Become Steelers New Offensive Coordinator

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have tapped former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley to be their new offensive coordinator, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Responding to an earlier report from 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City, Mortensen tweeted, "Todd Haley is the Steelers new offensive coordinator, sources confirmed."

Haley, who was fired by the Chiefs in December, interviewed with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin last week.

Haley was Arizona's offensive coordinator in 2007 and 2008, helping lead the Cardinals to Super Bowl XLIII against the Steelers, before Kansas City hired him in 2009.

He was 19-26 in 45 regular season games as head coach of the Chiefs.

Just a couple more reports to make it official.

On one hand, I'm super happy Tomlin didn't cave to what Ben wanted and promote Fichtner. It shows he's doing what's best for the team and is going to take some control back. On the other hand, I worry Haley may have difficulty in dealing with Ben/Tomlin and vice versa.

In any event, here's to our new OC and much success going forward with our offense. I'm excited to see where we can go from here! :cheers:

A lot of fans thought that Ben's and Bruce's relationship was too close, and that what Ben needs is a coach, not a friend. Well, here we go. This hire fits the bill. And Haley likes to pass the ball, so that should appease Ben a little. Let's just hope Haley can help Ben "tweak" his game.

Bouchette On Potential Of Haley As O.C.: ‘A Good Hire’

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Post-Gazette Steelers’ beat writer, and 93.7 The Fan Steelers’ Insider, Ed Bouchette, joined the Fan Morning Show on Tuesday to talk about the reports that former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley has been offered the Steelers’ Offensive Coordinator job.

Ed says that himself, and fellow PG beat writer, Gerry Dulac cannot confirm that Haley has been offered the job. However, he thinks it would be a good hire, and that Haley would be a good fit for the Steelers saying he has “no problem with that hire.”

As for who made or will make the decision on Haley, Ed says that it will be up to Coach Tomlin as it has been in the past. Ed thinks that Tomlin’s track record for hiring assistant coaches has been very good.
