For all the craziness that is associated with Ray Lewis(notes), the man sure does seem to speak the truth on big issues. The latest one? How the lockout might affect our society as a whole, and what it might do to the nation's crime rate.

No, he isn't just talking about the players. Ray thinks if the lockout continues and there is no NFL season, crime will increase because people will be so distraught without one of their favorite past times.

Not the players? Yeah right! Haven't a few already started acting the fools?

Maybe this is just a warning that Ray Ray's stabbing hand is getting a little antsy. Sort of like Ash's hand in "The Evil Dead II".

Let's forget the fact that Lewis has an alterior motive. But would crime really increase if there was no football? Some studies would suggest the opposite is true.

Study Links Domestic Violence to Professional Football Game Outcomes
A study published in the Quarterly Journal of Economics and reported by MedPage Today, found that after American professional football games, in which the home team was predicted to win by four or more points--but ended up losing in the end, there was about a 10% increase in the rate of domestic violence by men against their female partners.

Battering is also tied to a narrow window near the end of the game, and appears to increase even more so for important games such as a rival match or contention for playoffs.

Specifically, the researchers said they saw no increase in violence at 3 p.m. on game days, because the outcomes of the typical 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. games are not known at that point.

But there's a significant effect between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., the researchers said, when the results of the 1 p.m. game are known, and then again between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. following the results of 4 p.m. games.

I heard some clips of the actual interview on the radio today. Talk about puke inducing!

Ray-Ray is such a drama queen. He acts like the fate of the entire universe hinges on the playing of NFL football. He should just retire and become an actor or televangelist right now. Guy has such an issue with over exaggerating trivial shit. Hey Ray, how about showing some of this concern over the 2 guys you helped murder a few years ago in Atlanta?

I mean, I love me some football, but.... C'MON!
