I thought this would be Billings or Joseph/Jackson III who were already picked.

I suspect they were thinking Burns because that pick came kinda fast. Not like they were working trades or anything. He's good, but not what I would have thought right there.

I wonder what their draft board is. They submitted the pick so quick that it seems Burns is very high on their board.

I might be the only guy who loves the pick. But serious reach. Why no Billings? ):

Come on NFL network, talk about Burns some at least. Frigging Broncos and their trade up.

A lot of potential. All the tools are there, they just need to be put together. Not a year 1 starter but could pay off big long term.

Maybe they saw something they didn't like in the interview or thought they could get close value to him in Rd-2 or Td-3. It does feel like a reach though.

He wouldn't last until the Steelers second pick. They like him enough to not even think about trading down (it's a guess based on how quick they submitted the pick). He must be highly graded by the team.

Artie Burns was my dirty draft secret. He gives me an Antonio Brown vibe as a CB. But man, I love Billings too, and really wanted him to be the pick. But when I heard Combert in the pre draft interview, it definitely seemed like NT was off the board for round one. So, I'm happy. I like Burns more than the CBs ahead of him other than Hargreaves. Those Mighty mites can play. Him and Golson can make for some serious production in turnovers in the coming years if they pan out.

As I said earlier though, sometimes you really like a pick and it doesn't work out and sometimes you scratch your head and it does. I'll give Burns a chance. I am starting to see what Butler values in his DBs though. He likes guys who can pick the ball off. He's different from Lebeau in that regard. Not that I think DL didn't appreciate guys who could do that but it seems that we place a higher value on that under Butler.

I think it was a big reach. Should have gone for a DT or even trade back with Denver for an extra pick. I hope he pans out, but I think he will be as big of a disappointment as Jarvis Jones is.

Kenny Clark is going to Green Bay.

I thought they might go for another position. It seemed a disappointment at first but as some have mentioned they jumped really fast with the pick. It almost seemed they were excited to make it. Tomlin looked to be pretty happy.

I recall Mike Mayock had Burns going to the Chiefs in the first round and Mel Kiper had Burns to the Seahawks in the first round so it is not a total reach

Redskins going WR blew up any quality WRs being around when the Bengals picked before the Steelers

That's true and honestly I remember feeling Shazier felt like a reach a couple years back. I did see quite a few mocks with us taking Artie for what it's worth. I'm rooting for the kid in any case. By all counts, a great kid too.

Got hope for him...but with the way the steelers are about cbs....I don't think he's going to see much playing time this year....you have to wonder if we would have gotten tons more value **this year** out of a good DT with that pick. a year where we should be in the Super Bowl.

Thankfully this draft is great draft to be looking for a DT...so hopefully They get a good one in day two.

Also...It looks like they are going to put a lot of faith in Robert golden to man that safety spot full time...

Can't tell until we know what they're going to pick in the second and third rounds. Once Joseph is gone, there're no first round worthy safety available.
