The article went on to say they are preparing both Mitchell and Mason, splitting first team reps, and will name a starter at the end of the week if Kenny can't go. So - that's something different.
My opinion: I wouldn't mind if they shut Kenny down for the season. Two concussions in a year is scary. His future is ahead of him, not this year.
Their approach to Mason and Mitch is a striking lack of confidence in Mitch - well deserved by his last performance. At this point I don't have confidence in either one, but they might as well give Mason the nod. Probably his last season in Pittsburgh, but at least give him a whirl.

I mean it was training camp and preseason but Rudolph was statistically the best performer at that time. I kind of want to see what the guy can do, and honestly it would be a good chance for him to audition for a job elsewhere.

In all honesty, I believe Mason lost any chance to ever snag the starting job in Pittsburgh when he played for Ben the previous year against a terrible Lions team and couldn't secure the victory.
Last week, Mitchell did the same with his performance against the Ravens, a team that was down two QB's and really not playing very well. 3 drive-killing INT's crushed our chances of winning - and also Mitchell's future.
So really - its a toss-up between Mitch and Mason. Kenny is the guy from now on. The reality is, if he clears protocol, whether we agree with the move or not, he's going back out there. Hope to hell he doesn't suffer a third concussion.
Next year, Mason will not be on the roster. At $7 million, most likely Mitchell will be (a trade partner would be unlikely). Mason will have a hard time latching onto a backup job anywhere next year. The following year, Mitchell could very well be out of football, too.
Right now I'd love to have Dobbs back (Cleveland dumped him).

Mason Rudolph 'ready to rock' if Kenny Pickett can't play for Steelers because of concussion https://triblive.com/sports/mason-rudolph-ready-to-rock-if-kenny-pickett-cant-play-for-steelers-because-of-concussion/
Come on let Rudolph play in some of the reindeer games.

I personally think Mason has handled this season with class and should start instead of Mitch if Kenny can't go. I don't see how he could play any worse than Mitch did on Sunday. Plus Mason should get his audition for next season.

I'd love to see it - but I'm not holding my breath.
But if he did, he would get a nice signing somewhere in free agency. Because the Steelers won't be paying him.

How many more times are they gonna let Kenny get his eggs scrambled before someone puts him on a shelf?

WR Diontae Johnson rooting for Mason Rudolph to get snaps at quarterback for Steelers https://triblive.com/sports/wr-diontae-johnson-rooting-for-mason-rudolph-to-start-at-quarterback-for-steelers/
When he was a rookie in 2019, Diontae Johnson’s first NFL touchdown reception came on a pass thrown to him by Mason Rudolph.

Rudolph got a shitty deal over all with this team. Fitchner had him play handcuffed almost all the games he played for him when Ben went down. Canada did the same thing last year in the Detriot game until the 4th quarter and then Friermuth and Johnson dropped chain moving drive killing passes deep in Lions territory one at the end of the 4th the other in OT. People blamed Rudolph...
Not saying he has been stellar... but he has played handcuffed and he has been the consumate team oriented player from day 1.

I say Pickett gets sat the rest of the year. If they let that kid go back out there and he gets another Concussion his career is just about over from a medical standpoint. Very few doctors are going to want to clear him and still remain credible as a professional medical specialist.
Let Trubisky or Rudolph finish off the year. Let Trubisky earn some of that money they gave him.

I agree and I also think TJ should take the rest of the year off to fully recover. I realize I may be in the minority in regard to TJ.

I am on board with TJ being sat too. Let him get healthy.

I have mixed feelings about him starting. He's not even played a full season and already has had 2 concussions.

I thinks it's a bad decision but hopefully the kid can finish the year healthy.
