| Ilkin has obviously done great work with Kelvin Beachum redcently. I guess the only reason he hasnt helped out the team before is because none of the former O-line coaches have asked him.
Good work by Coach Mike working like a position coach but thinking like a boss.

last year bringing in Mike Munchak was the steelers biggest impact "free agent" signing.
maybe this year, adding ilkin to help will have similar results and we see all O-Linemen have another year of improvement and development (except for mike adams- if you listen to the haters, naysayers, and twitterverse he has already reached his peak level of suck and his career is on the downward slope to being a crack addict sleeping in an alley).

| I thought Tunch always did some kind of clinics in the past and worked with o linemen? He's a technician and from accounts a good teacher as Mike Holmgren and Bill Cowher have asked for his help in the past.
Put the fact that he and Munchak are good teachers of the position aside and put their collective years of NFL experience together. Young guys are gonna sit up and listen to those 2 guys.

As a fan of Adams, if these 2 don't get it into his head about anchoring properly and he's still getting bulldozed into backfields on passing plays....then he will suck

| Tunch Ilkin is from the Chuck Noll coached o-linemen days. - By Paper Champions on Jan 2, 2013 wrote:
Is Tunch Ilkin a legitimate candidate for the offensive line coach position vacated by Sean Kugler?
Bill Cowher once offered former Steelers player and current radio analyst Tunch Ilkin the team's offensive line coach job. Ilkin turned the job down because of the time commitments, but the compelling question is what would make Cowher offer the position to a former player that has no previous coaching experience?
Tunch is renowned in league circles for being a master at teaching pass protection. He was an undersized left tackle that was able to last as long as he did because of excellent technique.
It goes a little beyond that, however.
Ilkin revolutionized pass protection; specifically, how offensive linemen use their hands in pass pro. Ilkin was really the first one to bring the techniques of martial arts into pass protection. Ilkin taught that in order to get more power with a punch, a linemen needed to punch with the muscles in their back in addition to the ones in their chest. This could be accomplished by squeezing the lat muscles together before the punch.
Hand-eye coordination was stressed also. Therefore, you would see Ilkin basically looking like a boxer hitting a heavy bag. Instead of throwing jabs, hooks, and crosses, Tunch would deliver two and one hand punches. Over and over again until it became second nature.
Ilkin would also work on things like the quick replacement of hands after a defender knocked them down and hitting small targets like shoulders.
Those are just a few, basic examples. It goes a lot deeper. Basically, Ilkin took the use of hands in pass pro and turned it into a science. Ilkin visited many teams after he retired to teach other coaches the techniques that allowed him to play as long as he did in the NFL. Everybody now does some type of version of the "Tunch Punch".

NFL Notebook: Ex-lineman's punch is packing big wallop
Football scouts have good eyes, but while watching some University of Miami players work out, Tom Modrak heard something that got his attention.
"One of the linemen was talking about using Tunch's Punch," said Modrak, the Buffalo Bills' assistant general manager. "I had to laugh."
Modrak laughed because the Tunch Punch, as perfected and taught by former Steelers tackle Tunch Ilkin, has become as famous among offensive linemen as the Full Nelson in pro wrestling.
In one of the videos, Ilkin displays the Tunch Punch technique, which he used effectively as a 265-pound tackle to bring big men to their knees. A man that size had to have an advantage when going against 300-pound defensive linemen, and Ilkin had it in his jab.
"He was so good with his hands," said Modrak, a former Steelers personnel man. "He played against bigger guys, and nobody could put their hands on him because he was so good with his technique."
"He was probably the best guy to use his hands I've ever seen," said New York Giants offensive line coach Jim McNally. "It's a quick punch. Boom! He'd block a big defensive lineman and knock him to his knees. All it is is him working hard at repetition over and over, using his hands, quick jabbing, punching."
McNally, one of the best in the business, had a hand in helping Ilkin get started in his new career. A tape of Ilkin and former Steelers lineman Craig Wolfley blocking in a Steelers practice somehow surfaced and was used by other NFL teams to display what quickly became known as the Tunch Punch after he retired.

| Mike Munchak Getting Tougher On His Linemen In Second Season
When the Pittsburgh Steelers had the chance to bring in Hall of Fame guard and accomplished offensive line coach Mike Munchak for that same position, they no doubt understood that they were entering a multi-year process, and that everything that ailed the unit was not going to be fixed overnight...

| So, if one of the plays results in a fumble and it's the guy going the opposite way for a TD, is he going to yell OH MY GOSH, OH MY GOSH, TACKLE HIM, like a blabbering idiot? | |

No, because we no longer have Max Starks, Chris Kemoeatu and Willie Colon standing around, looking at the live ball laying on the ground.

| Alex Kozora @Alex_Kozora - My guess of how the Steelers' offensive line groupings will play out tomorrow, given the injuries to Adams and Pouncey. #Steelers3rd team – Whimpey, Rahrig, Dismukes, Finney, Palmer 2nd team – Villanueva, Hubbard, Finney, Dieffenbach, Van Dyk 1st team – Beachum, Foster, Wallace, DeCastro, Gilbert https://twitter.com/Alex_Kozora | |

Oh I misread that article title. I thought it was saying Tunch would be a head coach. I had just got off work so I was too tired to even determine if that made any sense. Head Coach Tunch Ilkin would still be kick ass, losing Mike Munchak would not.
