Awesome! I'm looking forward to focus on the draft once the season's over. Right now I even didn't know what picks we got Two 4th rounders, nice! Only a shame we have pick 32

I could definitely see them trying to use that extra fourth as some trade bait to move up a little bit if there's a player they really like at some point and they want to lock up the pick. Will be interesting to see what they do come draft time.
Definitely early at this point, but I always love to get an early start when it comes to mocks.
I sure hope we end up with pick 32, that'd be awesome.

no center ? i think its time they need to get serious about finding pouncey's replacement. he is a free agent in 2022 and will be 33 years old. Ben has said several times when pouncey goes he goes. so that leads me to believe pouncey isnt looking for a new contract after 2022. vince williams will also be a free agent in 2022 and will be 32.
i think you have covered all the possible future needs based on ageing and pending contracts, it is a bit unpredictable which positions are most glaring. i can also see big AL hanging up the cleats. tyson is also getting old at 33 but he has a few less miles on him and so far seems to be getting better with age.
only 19 players are signed beyond 2022 including damn near all the current starters so the steelers FO is gonna need to put in some overtime the next 2 years figuring out who they can offer a new contract under a lowered salary cap. if Ben is off the books in 2022 that will help significantly.

Yeah that was a bit tough deciding not to put a center on there. As time goes by, that may be something that changes in later versions of my mock. It's still so early. I only put Mekhi Sargent on there for fun to be honest since it was one of our last picks. In all honesty I'm leaning towards him being a UDFA though a 7th Round pick wouldn't be totally out of the question.

Played around on the draft network and came up with this draft, doesn't seem too shabby either.

looks like this is the last year for Dupree, man he's turned into a monster this year so far.

and i've been shitting all over him for 4 years... i honestly do believe it all boiled down to switching sides. same thing happened with max starks. he looked like dog shit at right tackle , then was...servicable...at left tackle. no great...but not bad. he even said himself he felt more comfortable on the left side.

It also helps that TJ is usually getting the double team or chips by the TE or RBs. Bud is usually 1v1. He is doing finally what we drafted him for...
if Kyle trask keeps playing the way he is he will be a top 5 pick and the 2nd qb off the board ,not a mid to late 2nd rounder...lol

This is very true. He's playing his way up to he early rounds for sure and he has the prototypical size and arm talent one likes to see from a QB prospect.

i have seen him in one mock going i believe it was 20th ? that wilson guy from BYU is also interesting. i have seen him compared to johnny football without the booze and drugs... jamie newsome from georgia , skipping the season might be the only option if they wanna take a flyer on a qb. i think he will fall to the late 2nd or later. i think they got the qb draft pecking order wrong.they have
lawrence fields lance wilson trask newman
i think it is for now. need to see more from fields and trask so i might flip those. but i think my top 3 all go top 5. wilson and lance , depending on how they finish the season may go top 20.
lawrence fields wilson lance trask newman
in my opinion i think 50% or more of the teams in the NFL would be open to spending a first on a QB they like.even teams like the falcons, and lions who have decent QBS but are not winning may be open to make a change or invest for the future.
after watching a few florida games from last year and this year i have soured a bit on Trask. he looks like a dink and dunk system QB who's stats are greatly inflated by excellent receivers who gets way more yards after the catch than they should. florida's offense looks much like what the steelers are running right now. most passes dont travel over 10 yards from the line of scrimmage. Trask doesnt move that well in the pocket and is limited athletically. he throws the ball late and behind the receiver too much for my liking.
im liking what i see from Zach Wilson from BYU more.
i dont understand where all the hype for try lance is coming from... ..he doesnt look to me like a man amongst boys playing against inferior competition. he has a decent arm, but i dont see the accuracy. his throwing reminds me of lamar jackson. he is a good runner, but not near as fast a lamar.

Well what do you guys think are the biggest needs after having watched these past three games?
I'm gonna go with OT, IOL, RB, and 3-4 OLB as my Top 4 positions of need. The o-line needs to get younger and more physical, Conner isn't worth keeping around as he's made of porcelain, and Bud Dupree will likely get paid much more elsewhere so we're going to need to shore up the depth at that position. Highsmith has shown promise, but he's a rookie and we don't know 100% whether he's the heir apparent or just a rotational kind of guy.

dupree got a 4 year grace period, i think highsmith has looked better than dupree did his 2 or 3 years. i think ILB is the bigger issue. they need another 3 down guy to pair up with Bush. remember spillanes contract is up too and lamar jackson aint going nowhere. they need another fast linebacker. @IowaSteeler...have you checked out Zach Wilson ? BYU probably in this order would be my priorities. if Ben retires and gets that 40 million off the books ,that would be a HUGE help as far as using free agency to plug some holes. i would hate to see them bring in a young QB behind this wretched Oline and no running game. QB LT C G NT RB ILB

I'd be happy with Zach Wilson or Kyle Trask. Trask is going to go off before we're up to pick, but if he fell for whatever reason I wouldn't have any issue with that. Wilson looks pretty damn good as well. I'd have the QBs ranked like this if it were me making up a draft board:
1. Trevor Lawrence 2. Kyle Trask 3. Zach Wilson 4. Justin Fields
I do believe in Highsmith but we need some depth behind him. You can never have enough pass rushers, which is why I have 3-4 OLB as a position of need on my board. Otherwise I think you're positions of need are pretty well in sync with mine.

dont get mesmerized by Trask's stats or highlight tapes. you can find several games from this year and last year on youtube that shows every one of his passes for that game. highlight vids dont show how a guy reacts to pressure and how often he makes horrible decisions with the ball. thats why i posted a vid of all of Wilson passes instead of just highlights. its important to evaluate the bad with the good.
Trask is very similiar to Rudolf when it comes to mobility and pocket awareness. he is strictly a pocket passer. Wilson on the other hand is fantastic throwing on the move. lots of rollouts in BYU's offense. he isnt fast but has some wheels to him and aint afraid to pull it down and run. considering the uncertainity of the Olines going forward , i'll take the more mobile QB who is adept at rolling out and throwing on the run.
according to my eye test / opinion, wilson has the stronger arm and puts better touch on his deep balls. and as i said he definitely more mobile than Trask. plus you have to break down their environment as a factor. wilson is playing inferior competition but wilson doesn't have a bunch of NFL talent as a supporting cast. , Trask is playing with a great supporting cast. a first round top 10 TE and 3 receivers that will be picked on day 2 or 3. TONEY, GRIMES, AND COPELAND.
Quote :
Of Wilson, Kiper wrote, “I’ve moved him slightly ahead of Trey Lance and Mac Jones. It’s going to be close throughout the pre-draft process, but I’m giving Wilson the edge right now. ... He has a great arm and shows anticipation on throws. He’s the complete package. Wilson, a true junior, could still return to BYU for another season, but I think he’s a first-rounder if he enters the draft.”
the shitty thing is now Wilson isnt flying under the radar anymore...he has heisman talk and is shooting up mock draft boards in to the top 20 where teams like the bears and skins will be picking. vikings , Patriots*, bears ,skins ,bucs, and colts...any of them could foil the steelers plan if they had eyes for WIlson...Losing out and going one and done might be good for their future ...
you state depth as your reason for thinking OLB is a bigger need than ILB because of lack of depth. i think they need a new STARTER at ILB to pair up with Bush. starter need trumps depth need....i win ...

i think it depends on the next 3 games..if he continues to play like dog shit and they lose all of them he will retire. personally i think he should hang it up...actually i thought last year he should have hung it up.

I saw a story Monday before the game with an unnamed source saying that he wants to come back next year. You have to figure if things keep going like Monday night he won't. Might be easier to sign some people like Dupree and Hilton w/o Ben's contract especially considering Dupree may be at lower market value. Doesn't solve the QB problem, though.
