Definitely don't see us taking a QB. That's a luxury pick right now with Ben supposedly coming back, and with us being short on draft capital this season we need to use the picks for more glaring needs.

DT will be high on the list though since both Hargrave and Alualu probably be gone.

I think you're right about them both leaving but maybe they're putting their stock in Buggs. I believe they draft o-line first. If you believe mock drafts though most of the quality o-lineman will be gone in round one so it's anyone's guess. BPA could very well be a DT.

If we go offensive line I wouldn't mind Tristan Wirfs. He would be a nice addition to our O-Line, could possibly play LT at the NFL level, but might be better suited to play LG. Could use a little work in his pass blocking, but he's a mauler in the run game. Our run blocking was abysmal last season and honestly I think he could be a younger upgrade over either Alejandro Villanueva, or Ramon Foster. AV and Foster are getting long in the tooth, and they were the weak link in our O-Line last season.
I think they like Buggs, with an offseason under his belt I'd like to see how Buggs does coming training camp. Losing Hargrave would definitely hurt. He's one of the most underappreciated players in our defense, and in the league in general IMO. But if Buggs can step up, then we might not have to spend one of our higher picks on a DT, we might be able to draft one a little later in the draft and try to fix the more glaring issues with our higher picks.

ok first off the qb i seen mocked to us is garbage. jalen hurts ? now back to DT and Buggs....the guy had very little playing time last year. had 2.5 tackles ? does anyone think based on that the steelers have decided he is going to be their guy ? i mean the organization pretty much knows who is or likely is not going to be on the roster the following year. i would think if they seriously considered buggs to be next up they would have worked him into the lineup a bit more at least towards the second half of the season.
i would kick the tires on this guy for a late pick

im surprised you guys dont think a QB will be in the mix...right now that is the BIGGEST ? going in to this season. i mean had rudolf played even a little bit better or ben was showing signs of being ready for the season...but the steelers have been pretty quiet on his recovery.to me that is not a good sign.

my thinking the Steelers will squeeze one more season out of Ben, I could see the Steelers looking at running spread option QBs with Fitchner as OC, the way teams can practice per CBA and the type of QB college game is turning out.
The Spread Quarterback: The Predetermined Player The best way to describe a spread quarterback in relation to a pro-style one is that his role is predetermined. That is, the offense is designed in such a way that he is making controlled throws, often bubble screens, or within 5 yards, and also has designed runs, often with options built in. You build plays around him. If a team can find a supreme athlete that has adequate short field accuracy, and also excellent athleticism, you have something to build on.

Now that the CBA is signed the cap goes up 10mil. I'm still not sure what that does for us except get us closer to signing Dupree if that is really what they intend to do. I won't claim to know what will change with the new CBA except for the cap. I know this. If I were Tomlin Ben would be starting in the HOF game. I'd be kicking his tires early.

Report: 49ers trade Pro Bowl DL DeForest Buckner to Colts for 1st-round pick
The San Francisco 49ers are trading DeForest Buckner to the Indianapolis Colts for a first-round pick, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.
^^^^^ this sentence got me thinking as an "example Bud Dupree" why wouldn't the Steelers trade him for equal value draft pick? build with your core players, instead of losing very good players to free agency trade them to another team for a equal value 1st or 2nd round pick. imo in time the team will stay younger. like the crap the Steelers dealt with with Bell and AB they could got 2 1st round pick them.

oh i agree 100% and complain about that often...you can tell when a player is going to a pain in the ass about their contract..especially players that act like assholes years before contract time. whoever makes those calls aint to smart. squeezing an extra year or 2 out of a player knowing your likely not going to give them another contract is just foolish. but in the case of dupree i really dont think anyone would pony up a first for him. the stats dont lie. dupree's numbers are inflated by the amount of snaps he played. his pass / pressure ration is 10%...which is not impressive at all. chikillo if given that amount of playing time probably would have had the same production ... i would be thrilled to get a second round pick out of him.

With Foster heading into retirement, it feels like OL is now the biggest need.
