So the tone of the article is that Worilds was used not only to rush from the outside and drop into coverages, but also to rush from the inside and stunt on obvious passing downs. Its nothing that Haggans, Woodley or any other OLB has been tasked to do in the Steelers system. It took Worilds 5 seasons to not be a walking injury and register single digit sacks. If Dupree can do that in 3 seasons he will still be immensely more of a success than Worilds was...I hope he does that by year 2.

Steelers training camp: In Bud we trust?
by Jesse Kirkendall
In less than a week, training camp will officially open for all players on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ roster. 2015 marks the 50th year that the team has held the summer event at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and holds promise for an exciting preseason before the Steelers’ face off against the New England Patriots* to begin the start of the regular season.
While there are many players of intrigue that will be in attendance, all eyes will be on 2015 first round draft pick Alvin “Bud” Dupree as he progresses further into his rookie campaign. With a linebacker corps that is suspect to age, injury, and lack of depth, taking Dupree at 22nd overall was the best decision the Steelers could have made being outside the top ten teams making selections.
OTAs (organized team activities) and mandatory minicamps in the months of May and June have brought him some knowledge of the playbook and have helped him build a rapport with his teammates, but July’s training camps are what will begin to help shape what kind of production we see out of Dupree when it is time for him to take the field for the first time at a professional level.
It is no secret that Steeler Nation is expecting much from Dupree in his rookie season. The team recorded 33 sacks last season. Think back to Pittsburgh’s 2008 season when James Harrison and LaMarr Woodley registered 27.5 sacks just between the two of them. The Steelers won their sixth Super Bowl title that season in large part due to their fearsome linebacker duo.
Even though Harrison is still on the roster, it has been seven years since that historical season. The spirit may be willing, but the body eventuall breaks down over time. He enjoyed a nice return to football after injuries forced the Steelers to call upon their former Defensive Player of the Year last season, where he had 5.5 sacks, but this year he will take on more of a mentor role.

Dupree: 'I am going to make an impact'
Teresa Varley Steelers.com
Bud Dupree is confident he can have an impact on the defense.
It’s the day Steelers rookies have waited for since they were drafted a few months ago. Their first training camp practice. Their first chance to show a little more of what they are made of to their coaches and teammates, and for the first time to Steelers fans.
First-round pick Bud Dupree, the linebacker from Kentucky, was among those anxious to get started.
“Today will be a good day,” said Dupree. “I am just eager to see how everything goes. I am ready to go out there and compete and get better as a team. We always want to get better each and every day, we take it one step at a time.
“I have been looking forward to it since I got drafted. I am ready to play.”

Steelers' Dupree Earning Respect Of Teammates
Aug 01, 2015 Gwen Arbuckle SteelCityInsider.net
First-round draft pick Bud Dupree is drawing praise from team MVP Le'Veon Bell, among others.
Le’Veon Bell was asked by SteelCityInsider for an opinion on this season’s rookies, and Bud Dupree’s name was mentioned immediately.
“He’s struggling," Bell started. "He’s shaking a little bit, but he’s sticking in there, you know. As a rookie it’s hard to do that.”
Struggling in the cold tub, that is.
Bell’s take on the rookie’s on-the-field performance is very much the opposite.
“He’s got some things you really can’t coach in a player," Bell said. "When you have that natural ability, you just kind of touch him up a little bit and let him go.
When SCI pressed a little further, the Pittsburgh Steelers' MVP of 2014 revealed exactly why Dupree is a rookie with a future.
“His start off the ball, you know. He’s a great pass rusher. He does a great job of anticipating the snap, even when it’s on two or three. He just kind of keys the ball real well, and as soon as that ball snaps, he’s gone, and that’s something you can’t really coach. You either got it or you don’t."
And “getting it” is something Dupree said is one of his strengths. Take for example last night’s backs-on-backers drills, which Dupree said he’d never done before. But his performance in those drills was more than notable.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are going new-school on defense, and 2015 first-round pick Bud Dupree should be at the head of the class.
Unfortunately, the No. 22 overall pick showed no pass-rush aptitude in the Hall of Fame game—literally, per Pro Football Focus, registering zero pressures on 17 pass-rush snaps. Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers operations manager Joe Bussell led a Twitter chorus of evaluators who weren't shocked the athletic youngster's game didn't translate immediately to NFL success—but that doesn't do much to change the reality of the situation.
The Steelers defense has, for decades, been based on the linebackers' ability to disrupt the offense. Defensive linemen are there to eat blocks, defensive backs to hold down the fort—but the linebackers must make plays.
If the Steelers are going to defend the AFC North crown, they'll need a lot more from Dupree than they've seen so far this camp.

Steelers won the AFC North without Dupree last year and will not need him to do so this year. The kid is a physical beast, but still needs to learn to play OLB. He likely wont do much more than Shazier did last year, but Shazier, Harrison, Moats, Timmons, Spence, McCullers, Tuitt and Heyward will likely do more.
More bullcrap blogging about rookies needing to perform, when the last real rookie to contribute on Steelers D was Lamaar Woodley with a paltry 4 sacks and 14 tackles.

You always need players to give 3 years before you're sure what they really are worth. Patience with Dupree and other rookies is the key. Unfortunately the bashing on him will probably come this year since he's our first round pick.

Everyone who actually follows the draft knows that he's a project from Day 1. That's the big difference between him and Jones. He has all the physical tools but needs time to polish his skills. I wouldn't count on him making any impact this season.

Steelers rookie Bud Dupree thrown off the field for fighting
Posted by Darin Gantt on August 19, 2015
If the league’s not going to do anything about on-field fighting, the Steelers will.
According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin just kicked outside linebacker Bud Dupree off the practice field for fighting with a teammate.
It was the second tussle of the practice for Dupree, who tangled with guard Ramon Foster and wouldn’t let it go.
According to Dulac, the first-rounder was grabbed by veteran defensive end Cam Hayward in an effort to break things up, then escorted off the field by linebacker Lawrence Timmons.

Even if the kid is 260 lbs, he was wise to stop fighting after these 2 guys grabbed him

Foster was trying to stunt his growth as a player and Dupree isn't having any of it. He's already moved ahead of #95 in that regard. I like the fight in him.

May be an indication that Bud's feeling some pressure to show more than he has and doesn't want to be labeled the second coming of Jarvis Jones.

Bud showed us a few things we had hoped to see. Played more aggressively, showed a good motor and hustled toward the ball.

Dupree shows an explosive first step and decent use of hands, change of direction and ability to get around the edge(although, its a longer route than needed). I think he will be more impactful by week 9 this year.
On the other side, Harrison is a caged lion that has been starving to get loose. If they can keep him fresh and manage his rushes, he can get 10 sacks this season.
Jarvis Jones shows the ability of being a good football player. His outside pass rush isn't very effective, but he hustles. He has always had heavy hands and he used them to shock the lineman and get inside for the sack today. I highly doubt that he gets his hands on Joe Thomas, Andrew Whitworth or Eugene Monroe like that in the division games this year.

Rookie linebacker Bud Dupree making immediate impact for Steelers
By Andrew.Kipp on Oct 15, 2015
Steelers rookie first-round pick Bud Dupree is off to a hot start. The outside linebacker has already registered three sacks through his first five NFL games.
The Pittsburgh Steelers used the 22nd overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft to select outside linebacker Bud Dupree from the University of Kentucky. The rookie first rounder has impressed, registering three sacks through his first five NFL games.
Dupree played four years at Kentucky, where he registered 36 tackles for loss and 23.5 career sacks, including 7.5 sacks in his senior season. At 6' 4", 270 lbs., Dupree has tremendous size, but he's also a freakish athlete. The 22-year-old stole the show at the NFL Combine in February, where he posted a ridiculous 42-inch vertical leap, 138-inch broad jump, and a 4.56 40-yard dash.
Dupree's college production, along with his size, athleticism and explosiveness, made him an attractive option for General Manager Kevin Colbert and Head Coach Mike Tomlin. Given the unexpected retirement of former outside linebacker Jason Worilds following the 2014 season, selecting Dupree would also allow Colbert and Tomlin to fill a position of need.
As luck would have it, Dupree, considered a top-10 talent by many scouts, fell to No. 22 on draft night, and Pittsburgh wasted no time snatching him up.
In former Steelers defensive coordinator Dick Lebeau's complex zone-blitz scheme, rookies rarely made an immediate impact, and usually went through a red shirt year or two before seeing significant snaps. This was often a point of contention for Steelers fans, who watched rookies on other defenses making contributions for their respective teams.
It begged the question, given all of the roster turnover in recent years, why Pittsburgh refused to simplify its defense.
Enter Keith Butler, the long time Steelers linebackers coach, who was promoted to defensive coordinator this past offseason. In Butler's defense, Dupree, who many pundits and draft scouts thought would be a long-term project, is already averaging 36.2 defensive snaps per game through the first five weeks of his rookie season.

I hope Dupree continues to develop. I know we all wrote off his first sack as it was uncontested and he came in unblocked, but he seems to be able to disrupt the line and make an impact much more so than Jarvis Jones in his first year.
